All math SOLs will be added on subsequent pages as we study them. Each page will contain advice on how to teach each sol as well as any useful resources.
In order for students to succeed this year, one major part of math is learning basic facts. Students are always encourage to check and recheck their answers, but in second grade we are really working towards automatic recognition of math facts. Students should move away from using their fingers from adding or subtracting numbers up to 20. Automaticity is an important part of a good math foundation, and being able to quickly add and subtract mentally will help students as they move to more difficult math. It would be a good idea purchase a set of flashcards (they can be found at dollar tree) and have students work nightly with adding and subtracting.
