Mrs. Shahriari:

It is with a very sad heart (bittersweet) that I must inform you that Mrs. Shahriari’s last day with our class will be on January 10th.  She is finishing up her Master’s degree to be a Special Ed. teacher and must complete her student teaching next semester at other schools.  It is very bittersweet for her as she would love to stay here, but must move on to finish her degree. We will all miss her soooooo very much.  She is AMAZING and I know the students have gotten very attached to her.  I will be mourning with them, as she is the best co-worker & friend anyone could ask for!  We have not told the kids yet, but are planning on telling them this week and starting to prepare them for this transition.  I would like her make some videos that we can watch frequently to remember her and her silly/loving ways.  I know all of the parents that have gotten to know her will be sad as well.  BUT, I am optimistic for the remainder of the school year.  We have a GREAT group of kids and I know that whomever replaces her will follow in her footsteps! I would like to plan an in-class celebration for her on Jan 10th and I will keep you posted in case you want to come or contribute. ~Mrs. Spaulding

Week 11: Hearing and Seeing

This is Week 11 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “Who We Are” by discussing our senses of Hearing and Sight.  We will be investigating sounds by recording our voices and listening to them, and by playing with musical instruments!  We will create our own musical instrument, a shaker, using a plastic bottle and small objects placed inside.  To investigate our sense of sight, we will hunt for holiday patterns around the room and observe a science experiment.  This week we will focus on letter Ww and meet our friend Willy Worm.

  • Please send in a plastic bottle by tomorrow! (Tuesday) Thank you for everyone who has helped already!
  • Last day of school before Winter Break, Friday, December 20th.

Week 10: Smell!

What We’re Learning:

This is Week 10 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “Who We Are” by discussing our sense of Smell.  We will be investigating smells by smelling scents and discussing whether we like them or not (cinnamon, bay leaves, lavender, coffee, garlic, etc.)  We will also make scented paint by mixing water, koolaid and food coloring to paint shapes.  We read The Gingerbread Man and made puppets! Please have your child recite the story (or just the rhyme to you!) “Run, run, as fast as you can.  You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!”   This week we will focus on letter Yy and meet our friend Yetta YoYo.   We also have a dancer from Wolf Trap arts academy named Mrs. Erin who will be visiting daily this week to engage the students in movement activities!
