What We’re Learning September 25-29, 2017

Happy Fall!

Reading:  We are reading our next story from the reading series. Our word skills are focusing on short vowels and beginning/ending sounds. In writing we are composing full sentences.

Math: We are still comparing numbers and ordering as least to greatest and greatest to least.

Science:  We are working on seasons. The seasons follow a cycle and there are different things we feel, see, touch, taste, and smell for each one. There are changes we see in animal and plant life for each season.

Social Studies:  We are studying patriotic symbols. Students need to know that a symbol is a picture that stands for something else, and patriotic means showing respect and love for your country. The four main symbols they need to recognize are the American flag, the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty, and the bald eagle. They need to know that we show respect for the flag by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

NOTES: Fridays are class cash redemption days. Students can purchase coupons for privileges or Gator Cash to be spent later. Class coupons are good for 1 time during the week. They need to be turned in when the child uses the privilege (for example, if they bring a stuffed animal to class, they need to hand me the coupon that day for the “Furry Friend.”). That way we can re-use the coupons for someone else. I will send home a list of our coupons so that you can be on the lookout. Thank you for your support!
