Field-based Experience Placements

A handshake between business people
Suffolk Public Schools teachers and administrators take pride in the high level of expertise we have to offer our students and the community. We are always happy to share this expertise with aspiring teachers and administrators through our Field-based Experiences Placement process.
If you are interested in completing your classroom observations, practicum, student-teaching, or internship as part of an accredited college or university P-12 education-related degree program, complete the SPS Field-Based Experience Request Form and submit it to the Office of Professional Development as instructed on the form.
Please understand that placements may take up to three weeks to process and all applicants must meet the following requirements with Human Resources before beginning their placement:
  1. Must NOT be registered on the National Sex Offender Registry for any reason. (Beginning January 1, 2015, the division will no longer require a full background check for any placement applicant and will complete the registry screening at no cost to the applicant or college/university.)
  2. Negative TB skin-test results completed within one year of expected start date are required.
  3. If the placement is 30 hours or greater, purchase an identification badge for $5 from the Finance Department located on the second floor of the School Administration Offices Bldg. Payment must be made in exact cash or money order. Upon payment, the receipt must be taken to the Human Resources Department on the third floor to obtain the badge.
Note to colleges and universities: Please make sure to send your field-based experience expectations/guidelines to Dr. Chelsea Kulp using the information in the Contact Information box on the right side of this page.
Thank you for considering Suffolk Public Schools as part of your education experience.
