Become a 2015-2016 Cooperating Teacher or Counselor

If you said “Yes” to these questions, then becoming a Cooperating Teacher or Counselor is for YOU!

Cooperating Teachers or Counselor are needed from all levels, all content areas, and all school locations. 

Any Suffolk Public Schools full-time employee who is interested in serving as a cooperating teacher or counselor for a field-based experience placement for the 2015-16 school year may apply. Once your request is submitted, your administrator will be asked to endorse your status as a fully licensed teacher or counselor on continuing contract status with a minimum of three years successful teaching experience. Upon endorsement, you will receive instructions for completing the Cooperating Teacher/Counselor Course in Edivate. You must complete this short course before you will quality to receive a placement for the 2015-16 school year.


You may receive up to 90 recertification points for license recertification and up to 15 STAR points for the current year. Some universities and colleges also offer an honorarium or stipend for your time and expertise.


The window for application form submission will remain open until September 7, 2015. After this window closes, you may no longer submit a request to be a cooperating teacher or counselor for the 2015-16 school year.
