Announcements – March 30, 2019

  • This year’s yearbook theme is “Glimpse”, so take a glimpse of the cover at the posters around school. We promise that this year’s yearbook is colorful, fun, and like nothing you’ve ever seen!
  • Don’t forget that today, March 30, 2018, is your last day to buy a yearbook for $60 in school!  After spring break the yearbooks will be $70. You may however, still buy a yearbook online at yearbookforever.com for $60 until April 4th! Save $10 dollars and order now! 
  • Seniors are reminded to turn in all financial aid award letters to Mrs. Williams or Mrs. Foster in guidance.
  • Upward-bound applications are now available. Please see guidance for an application. 
  • Juniors and Seniors: prom tickets are on sale in room 218 by Ms. Jacobs. Tickets are $60 each. In order to get your ticket each person must have a contract for conduct and dress code signed. Ladies please get your dress approved by Ms. Jacobs if you are unsure. In order to go to the prom, all junior and senior dues must be paid. 
  • Students: if you are participating in the Dominion Energy Leadership Conference, please return your permission slip by today, March 30th to your school counselor. 
  • The ROTC military ball pictures have arrived. Please stop by the ROTC room to pick them up.
  • Seniors: please pay your senior dues of $70 to Ms. Manning in the chorus room.  You cannot participate in senior activities or buy a ticket to the prom until you do so.   
  • There will be a Senior class meeting after school on Thursday, April 12th.  Please plan to attend.
  • Students: we only have a limited quantity of yearbooks left for the 2017-2018 school year. Check out the posters around school for a sneak peek at the yearbook cover. Make sure you order your yearbook before Wednesday, April 4th. After April 4th, yearbooks will go up to $70. Save $10 now and order your yearbook at yearbookforever.com or go to room 129 for an order form. 
  • On Monday, April 16th through Thursday, May 17th the Lakeland Marching “Quiet Storm” band will be conducting its annual spring band mini camp 2018. This is the time when all newly participating auxiliaries and all interested instrument players from all middle schools who are zoned to come to Lakeland and high school students who play instruments as well are invited to participate in being a part of the nationally known Lakeland High School marching “quiet storm” band. The time of spring band mini camp will be from 3:25 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. times and schedule of camp days will be given on the first week of camp. Transportation will be provided from the middle schools to Lakeland. However, parent must provide written permission to their child’s school that they can ride the activity bus for camp. Please come out and be a part of this year’s Lakeland Marching “Quiet Storm” band. For more information please see Mr. Wilson. Hope to see you there! 
  • Juniors: looking for a way to complete your community service hours…  Riverside Regional Medical Center’s volunteer program application is available online.  Application deadline is May 1st.  Please visit your school counselor for more information. 
  • Students: are you looking for an exciting and educational opportunity this summer?  Several colleges and universities are offering summer experiences, James Madison Univ., William and Mary, Harvard Univ.,  Adelphi Univ. and Prince William Sound College.  Please view the posters on the guidance hall for more information.
  • Students: Suffolk Parks & Rec has announced their 2018 summer counselor-in-training (CIT) program has begun to accept applications. This is a great way to earn community service hours and perform fun an excited activities with our elementary school students. Students from ages 14-18 can apply. If you are interested in applying please see your school counselor. 
  • Seniors: the NUCOR corporation has an exciting opportunity for those who may be thinking about a career as an electrician.  NUCOR Technical Academy will begin a new session for electricians in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Tuition is free for students with a 3.0 GPA, great benefits and NUCOR will help you move to Tuscaloosa.  If you are interested, please see Mrs. Williams in guidance. 
  • Seniors: the Newport News Shipbuilding apprentice school will be hosting an open house on Saturday, April 28th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Registration is now open and you must register to attend.  They will be sharing detailed information about apprenticeship opportunities.  If you would like to attend please see your counselor for more information.
  • Make-up Spring Sports team pictures will be on April 12 for JV & V Girls’ Soccer, V Boys’ Soccer, Boys’ Tennis and Track
