Registration of new Hillpoint Elementary School students

Posted on July 29th, 2008 in HES News by Mr. Ron Leigh

Parents and Guardians,

New students enrolling at Hillpoint Elementary for the 2008-2009 school year will register at the school to which they were zoned during the 2007-2008 school year (Kilby Shores Elementary School 934-6214 or Elephant’s Fork Elementary School 923-5250).

Students who are currently enrolled as Suffolk Public School students do not need to register again. Parents should register new students as soon as possible. Students cannot be registered at the Hillpoint site until after August 24th. We do apologize for any inconveniences, as the school is still under construction.

Welcome from the Assistant Principal

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Posted on July 21st, 2008 in HES News by Mr. Ron Leigh

Welcome to Hillpoint Elementary School, “HOME OF THE HUSKIES”. The staff and I are committed to inspiring your children to academic excellence within a community that fosters respect, honesty, responsibility, self-discipline, empathy, and a positive attitude. Our goal is to prepare students with the vital knowledge and skills they need for success while at the same time encouraging creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. We believe the responsibility for learning is shared by students, teachers and parents and we look forward to our partnership with you as we work to accomplish these goals. Our academic programs at Hillpoint will be aligned with with the Virginia State Standards of Learning and Suffolk Public Schools Improvement Plan; they include a focus on continuous improvement in literacy and maintaining a high performance in math, science, and social studies.

As we strive to meet our goals, one of the measures of success is our students’ high performance on the Virginia Standards of Learning. The support we receive from each of you will be invaluable. High parent involvement, school-to-home communications, and support for our enriched curriculum create a powerful partnership on the “HILL.” We invite each of you to become involved through our PTA, as classroom volunteers, and through our many Family Fun events, which will be held throughout the year. Events such as the Family Reading Night, Parent S.O.L. Night, Grandparents Week, and Field Day bring our community together both for fun and in support of school priorities. Parent volunteers will be actively involved at Hillpoint on a daily basis. Please check out our P.T.A. webpage (coming soon) to learn more about the important community building and fund raising events.

We hope that you will enjoy our new and improved Hillpoint Blog site. Please visit it often to get the latest “Hillpoint” news, find information, or to find out about up coming events in your child’s classroom. If you have any difficulty navigating the blog sight please call the school for help and we will be glad to assist you. Thank you again and welcome to the “HUSKY NATION”.

Sincerely,

Ron M. Leigh, Principal
