Reptile Program

Hillpoint Elementary was fortunate to have a reptile program presented to all grade levels on February 4th. JB Rattles spoke to students on safety, reptile defense, differences between mammals and reptiles, predator vs. prey, and habitats. Students were able to get up close and feel reptiles such as a kingsnake, tortoise, baby alligator, blue tongue skink and even an 11 foot Boa Constrictor. It was an exciting day for student learning.

Hillpoint Fundraiser Donation

DSCN7703

The students at Hillpoint Elementary recently participated in a valuable Community Service Project for the Suffolk Public Libraries. After the author visit from Donna Purkey, grade levels competed to raise money to purchase titles of her book “Miss You to Pieces.” The students collected money in the Media Center for two weeks and competed on what grade level could raise the most money. Second Grade was our winning grade level and the school as a whole collected enough money to purchase seven books. Four of these books were donated to the Suffolk Public Libraries. One book will go to each public library and one to the Book Mobile. They will be a resource to parents and children who are dealing with a military deployment. The other three books will be housed in the Hillpoint Guidance Suite. The students did an outstanding job raising the money for other children to be able to read this amazing book. The project also aligned with our school Code of Conduct by helping others. We are proud of our students for making a difference in our community.
