Today, we focused on “The Scarlet Ibis.” I would like to get in several more short stories before we conclude the unit.
We copied and discussed the SAT prep vocabulary that relate to the story, and then we went over the sentences that were homework. I collected the homework sentences and will try to enter the grades tomorrow. In B3, I forgot to collect the homework sentences, so please keep them until Tuesday. I will collect them then.
Then we completed a comprehension check (10 questions) for the story. This will be a class work grade.
Afterwards, we watched a short video that featured the quotes and theme from the story.
We took notes from a powerpoint related to the story. We focused on symbolism and created a chart comparing the ibis to the antagonist Doodle.
Students worked in partners to complete the chart and then we discussed their results.
We ended class by starting our homework: creating a chart of quotations that reflect the death imagery in the story and writing interpretations of the quotations.
Homework:
1. Write vocabulary sentences.
2. Study for vocabulary quiz.
3. Complete the chart. You will NEED the chart on Tuesday as content for the essay that we write during class. Make sure that you have 10+ examples.
