Today in blocks 4 and 6, we worked on the following:

1. Warm-up game for vocabulary review

2. Went over the last vocabulary quiz and answered questions

3. Completed the vocabulary test

4. Reviewed parts of speech with guided practice

5. Completed an identification activity for parts of speech

In Block 7, we completed a warm-up game for vocabulary and took our vocabulary test. 

Homework for B4, 6, and 7:

1. Study for your parts of speech test (Monday)– I recommended that you memorize the prepositions and look over the pronouns closely. There is a very good chapter in your grammar book for reviewing parts of speech.

2. Print out the characterization chart for “The Interlopers” and bring it to class. Make sure that you have read at least the first 3 pages of “The Cask of Amontillado.”

3. Work on your nonfiction (out of class) projects– due on Thursday.  Remember that these have to be typed.

In blocks 1 and 3, we worked on the following:

1. Completed a warmup game for vocabulary review

2. Went over the last vocabulary quiz

3. Took the vocabulary TEST (Whew!)

4. Reviewed parts of speech with guided practice and then completed a graded class work.

Homework:

1. Study for Parts of Speech test.

2. Print out the graphic organizer for “The Interlopers.”

3. Read “The Cask of Amontillado” (You can get away with reading only the first 3 pages:) 

4. Work on your nonfiction project.

In Block 7, we worked on a vocabulary warmup and then reviewed parts of speech.  We took a grade on parts of speech.

You need to print out or copy this chart fAND fill it in for homework.  It is due on Friday for Odd Day classes and Monday for Even Day classes.

You can print it at home or in the library.  The school library is open in the morning or during your lunch.

You can also create your own version in your handwriting.

Today, in blocks 4 and 6, we completed the following:

1. Took a reading check for “The Interlopers” (classwork grade) and went over the responses.

2. Annotated the story as we re-read it orally and analyzed sections; took notes as we read.

3. Reviewed pronouns and completed a classwork grade on them.

Homework:

1. Complete a plot diagram (labeled and filled in; make sure that you have at least 4 actions for the rising action) for “The Interlopers.”

2. Study for your VOCABULARY TEST.

3. For Monday— Read “The Cask of Amontillado” in the literature text.  It starts on page 172.


HOMEWORK: Blocks 1, 3, and 7

Today, in blocks 1 and 3, we had a full day.  We finished the following:

1. Completed the reading check for “The Interlopers.”

2. Conducted a full group discussion for “The Interlopers” with pair activities built in.  We went through the entire story and emphasized the omniscient narrator, plot structure, and irony (situational and verbal).

3. Went over all of our vocabulary quizzes in preparation for Wednesday’s VOCABULARY TEST.

4. Reviewed pronouns, completed a guided practice, and finished a classwork grade.

Block 7 completed activities 1 and 2.  We will revisit pronouns tomorrow.

Homework:

1. Study for VOCABULARY TEST.

2. Complete a plot structure diagram for “The Interlopers.”  Label it and make sure that you have at least 4 complications in the rising action.

3. Begin reading “The Cask of Amontillado”  in the literature text. It starts on page 172.  It is due on Friday.

4. Work on your nonfiction projects.

See me if you need to stay after school to work on your nonfiction essays that we have been writing in class. I can’t stay today but I will be glad to work out something for another day.


After School Writing Time

If you are planning to stay back to work on your nonfiction analysis essays, please see me the morning that you are planning to stay back for permission.  I have to write you a tutoring pass.

I will not be doing tutoring (remediation) until Thursday, but I will allow you to work quietly on your essays.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR NONFICTION ANALYSIS IS FINISHED BY WEDNESDAY. 

On Monday, I have a meeting so you need to get here by 2:20 so that I can get you your paper and situate you with another teacher until I can return.I am planning to stay until about 4:00.

Tuesday is a different story.  Most likely, I will be able to stay only until 3:00 because of an appointment.

On Wednesday, I will stay until 3:00 before I have to leave for a graduate class.

On Thursday, I will stay until 4:30 to tutor parts of speech in preparation for the unit test.

On Friday, I should be able to stay until 4:00 or so.

Today, in blocks 4 and 6, we completed the following:

1. Reviewed vocabulary with the whiteboards and completed the vocabulary quiz.

3. Worked on our nonfiction analysis essays.

Block 7 took their vocabulary quiz and reviewed pronouns.  Students who finished their quizzes were able to work on their essays.

I reminded ALL of the classes of their upcoming deadlines.

Homework:

1. Study for your upcoming tests.

2. Work on your nonfiction projects (see the earlier post).

3. Make sure that you have read “The Interlopers.”  We will definitely have a reading check on it!

Today, we were quite busy.

1. Reviewed adjectives and adverbs with a warmup and then we completed a classwork grade (we went over it as well).

2. Went over the nonfiction projects and upcoming deadlines.

3. Reviewed vocabulary sentences with whiteboards and collected vocab. sentences.  I entered those grades and returned them.

4. Completed vocabulary quiz.

5. Wrote the conflict (B1) or theme (B3) paragraph for the nonfiction essay.

Homework:

1. Make sure that you have read “The Interlopers.”  We did not get to our reading check.

2. Study and work on your nonfiction projects.

3. We will finish your essays next time, so make sure that you have finished through the paragraph listed in #5 above.

Today in block 4 and 6, we completed a classwork grade related to distinguishing between adjectives and adverbs.

Then the students elected to work on the second and third paragraphs of the nonfiction analysis, so that we could have more time with vocabulary.

We went over the vocabulary and I provided more examples.

Homework:

1. Be ready for a reading check on “The Interlopers.”

2. Study for your vocabulary quiz.

3. Be ready to finish your essays.
