Week of April 13

Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break. I am so happy the weather has been so wonderful and it looks like it is going to stay that way. Goodbye cold!!!
Here is what this week looks like for our class:
Tuesday, we will take the Reading MAP Test. This is the third time we will have taken this diagnostic test and the last time so I am excited to see the growth in each student from the beginning of the year.
Thursday is National High Five Day so we will have fun giving High Five’s for being awesome!
Friday we will have show n tell for items that start with pl and sl. Remember, your child can draw a picture of something or find a picture of something if you do not have an item.
There is only 1 week of AR left as the nine weeks closes on April 20th. The students have been working really hard on this and I am so proud of all they have accomplished.

Reading: We will be reading books by the author Jan Brett and learning about who she is as an author. We will work on the consonant blends of pl and sl. We will start writing narratives focusing on a beginning, middle, and end. We will also read poetry as April is National Poetry Month.

Math: We will wrap up the objectives we have learned this nine weeks and finish testing – addition, telling time to the hour, labeling patterns, etc.

Social Studies: We will finish discussing maps and learning about the purpose of maps and globes. Don’t forget that the map projects are due Friday. I can’t wait to see what everyone has come up with.

Science: We will review what we have learned this nine weeks and finish up testing.

We will also continue to work on our nursery rhymes this week as we add motions and expression. I am sending home the last nursery rhyme this week so please continue practicing.

Thank you for all of your continued support!

Can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow!!

Week of March 30

Good Morning!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

This week is a week of learning fun!

Don’t forget the Easter Egg Hunt is this Friday! :) I am so excited. I have lots of activities planned and would love some volunteers to help with the activities and the hunt.

Also, SOL Review Carnival night is this Wednesday, April 1. See you there if you signed up to come!

Here is a sneak peek of what we will be doing:

Reading: We will continue reading Eric Carle books and learning about his writing style. We will also continue working on practicing nursery rhymes as we prepare for our play. We will do a lot of work with comprehension and work on the sn and sw consonant blends. However, we will not have show n’ tell for items that start with these letters. We will have a mystery egg for the students to present. :)

Math: We will continue learning about time, addition and subtraction, counting, and reviewing our skills as we use jelly beans, bunny peeps, and eggs!

Science: We will continue discussing water and its properties. We will also be running an experiment on eggs to see what happens to an egg put in vinegar for 2 days. Then put in light karo syrup and then on Thursday placed in water. It is going to be ALOT of fun learning!

Social Studies: We will continue discussing maps but will finish after spring break. There is information on a map project coming home today but is not due until Friday, April 17th.

This is a fun week of learning and I can’t wait to get started!
Thank you for all of your support and please let me know if you can come in and help! If you want to help and are not sure if you are on the volunteer list, let me know and we can find out.

Have a wonderful week!

Weekly Updates for the Week of March 23

Good Morning!

2 weeks to Spring Break! And we are cruising all the way! :)

Just a few things about this week:
I am sending home a nursery rhyme to practice this week. It is one of the three that our class will be reciting during the play on Tuesday, May 5th. I will send the other two home next week. We will be practicing in class as well. They, at the very least, need to memorize the words. If you would like to use this as a tool to practice tracking words and home and identifying words as well that would be great! :)

Also, the Easter Egg Hunt is next Friday so please don’t forget to send in your items. I am also looking for parent volunteers that day to help hide the eggs and do some activities with the students.

Show n Tell this Friday will be for items that start with the consonant blend sm or sc.

Reading: We are starting our first Author Study and will focus on the books by Eric Carle. I am very excited about this as he is one of my favorites and I hope if the students don’t already, they will love his books by the time we are done. We will spend two weeks on his books.
Math: We will continue focusing on adding, telling time, graphing and tally marks, and patterns. We will start to go deeper into subtraction as well.
Science: We will continue work on understanding the different properties of water.
Social Studies: We will continue discussing maps and their importance.

Have a wonderful week!

Weekly Updates for the Week of March 2

Good Evening!

I hope everyone is doing well and staying warm with this crazy weather.
I am also hoping we can make it through a WHOLE week of school!!!

Here is what this week has in store for our class:
Monday is Read Across America Day/ Dr. Seuss’ Birthday so we will read a lot of Dr. Seuss books and the majority of the activities will revolve around a Dr. Seuss book.

Friday is Oreo Cookie Day so I will be bringing in Oreo Cookies for the class for snack.

I will be sending home a March newsletter; I am just waiting on dates.

It looks like March 12th will be the make-up day for the 2nd nine weeks awards assembly at 11:35.

In reading we will continue working with digraphs and short vowels. Our spelling words will be the same as last week as we did not have an opportunity to test on them along with the sight words. Show n Tell will also be the same as last week since we did not have the chance to share (something that starts with one of the digraphs: sh, wh, th, ch). There will not be any word sorts this week for homework as we continue to get caught up.

Math: We will continue working on telling time, addition, and subtraction. We will hopefully get through a whole week of guided math groups. :)

Science: We will learn about magnets!

Not much new as we did not get to a lot of things last week.

Have a wonderful week!

We will be breaking these words we create down to each letter sound and then chunking it into it’s two parts: onset (beginning) and rime (ending). We will continue with our spelling tests. These words are located on your child’s homework sheet. Also, those students who turn their homework in on Friday with at least 80% completion will receive a treat.
