Week 10: Smell!


What We’re Learning:

This is Week 10 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “Who We Are” by discussing our sense of Smell.  We will be investigating smells by smelling scents and discussing whether we like them or not (cinnamon, bay leaves, lavender, coffee, garlic, etc.)  We will also make scented paint by mixing water, koolaid and food coloring to paint shapes.  We read The Gingerbread Man and made puppets! Please have your child recite the story (or just the rhyme to you!) “Run, run, as fast as you can.  You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!”   This week we will focus on letter Yy and meet our friend Yetta YoYo.   We also have a dancer from Wolf Trap arts academy named Mrs. Erin who will be visiting daily this week to engage the students in movement activities!

This week we will review the letters that we’ve learned so far (SPTOXU) and discuss what we are thankful for, in preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will taste pumpkin pie, make a necklace and write a journal about how to cook a turkey!

Week 9


What We’re Learning:

This is Week 9 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “Who We Are” by discussing our sense of Touch.  We will beinvestigating different textures through art and cooking.  We will work on our fine motor skills which help us to manipulate everyday objects/tasks (holding a pencil, picking things up, zipping jacket/pants, etc.)  This week we will focus on letter Uu and meet
our friend Umbie Umbrella.

    letters we’ve learned so far this year. (Ss, Pp, Tt, Oo, Xx, Uu)  Please review the highlighted information with
    your child.

Week 8: Who We Are


This is Week 8 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “Who We Are” by using our imaginations to make-believe play with cooking and baby dolls.  We are discussing our sense of taste by tasting lemons and making fresh lemonade. This week we will focus on letter Xx. We will discuss words that end in “x” like fox, box, six, etc.

We will make patterns using body movements, draw our face and discuss our facial features, and help out in our community by keeping our Earth/school clean and recycling.  This week we will focus on letter Oo.

Week 6: The World Around Us!


What We’re Learning:

This is Week 6 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “The World Around Us” by exploring our shadows! We will discuss the weather daily, types of weather and the role of the clouds and the sun in creating light, shadow, temperature, etc.  This week we will focus on peer relationships.  We will also be completing a couple Halloween crafts and enjoy the United Way Spirit Week!

  • United Way Spirit Week is next week Oct. 28-Nov. 1. Monday- Pajama Day; Tuesday- Honky Tonk Country day; Wednesday- College Spirit day; Thursday- Hawaiian day; Friday-grade level color day (PINK/WHITE)

Week 5: The World Around Us!


What We’re Learning: This is Week 5 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “The World Around Us” by focusing on leaves. We will measure leaves, create unique art with leaves, paint what we see in nature while outside and experiment with making mud! This week we will discuss managing our emotions and practice cutting paper with scissors.

  • Weds., Oct. 23 is Orange Unity Day for bullying prevention- wear orange! It is also Bus Driver Appreciation day! Show your child’s bus driver some love!
  • We will make wish lists on Weds. for our school Book Fair which runs Oct. 24 – Nov 1 from 9 am to 4pm daily. If you send money for your child to shop, please label it with “Book fair” and what your child would like to buy.
  • Fri., Oct. 25th is Breast Cancer Awareness day- wear pink!

Week 4: The World Around Us


**Note: For Grandparent’s Week, visitors will check in at the front kiosk and will report to our classroom to pick up your child.  There is a designated dining area behind the gym (on the stage) for grandparents and students.

What We’re Learning: This is Week 4 of our Streamin3 curriculum, discussing “The World Around Us” by collecting nature items to count, compare and use to create art projects. We will discuss & stencil leaves changing colors for Fall. Last week we discussed how plants grow (what they need) and planted a garden of green beans & spinach, as well as practiced sorting and patterning objects. This week we will discuss managing our emotions as well.

Week 2: How Things Grow!


What We’re Learning:This week we will actively explore the basic and geometric shapes.   Square, rectangle, triangle, circle, oval, sphere, cube, cylinder, cone, and rectangular prism!We will write our names daily.  Please keep finding and discussing shapes and letters, practicing name-writing and sharing books with your child daily. We are moving into week 2 of our Streamin3 curriculum which discusses how we grow.  We will play a shape guessing game, trace/color/cut shapes, decorate a class banner and then adhere 2D and 3D shapes on it!  We will also be discussing animals and how they grow.  We have stuffed animals that we will be responsible to care for over the week!  Reminders:

  • Name necklaces will no longer be sent home daily.  They have been replaced with a tag on the back of your child’s bookbag.  The bus drivers can refer to that if needed. If you happen to get a new bookbag, please save it and I will re-attach it.  If your child comes without a bookbag, we will give them a name necklace for bus safety.

  • Picture day is Weds., Oct. 9th.  Please return the form on picture day.
  • Open House is October 10th at 6:30pm- yellow form comes home today.
