What We’re Learning, Oct. 9-13, 2017

Posted by: Susan Markham | October 9, 2017 | No Comment |

Reading:  We are reading several stories from our reading series, focusing on short u patterns and sequence. We will take a comprehension test on Friday. Our word skills this week are ending sounds,  short vowels, and titles and pictures. We are working on capitalization and punctuation in writing.

Math: We are working on shapes. Students need to know the four shapes (triangle, rectangle, square, and circle), number of sides and corners they have, as well as right angles, and things in the real world that look like these shapes. Our math benchmark is scheduled for October 17.

Science: We will test on seasons and seasonal change Tuesday, then we will begin studying natural resources.

Social Studies:  We are looking at patriotic symbols, holidays, and people associated with these holidays (Columbus Day, Presidents’ Day, July 4th) .

Notes:  Science Circus will be Tuesday, October 31, from 2-3:30.  We will do many experiments with pumpkins. If you would like to volunteer and or/donate a pumpkin (pie size preferred), make sure you have a current form on file. Any help is greatly appreciated!
