Hi Parents!

This week is a short week, Monday and Tuesday. These are full days of school. Winter break begins Wednesday, December 21 and lasts until January 2, 2017.

Monday:  Reading will be a combination of all skills learned as well as an introduction to compound words to go with our learning of Gingerbread Day (Monday). We will read stories like Gingerbread Baby, Gingerbread Man Loose In the School, Gingerbread Friends, and the classic Gingerbread Man. We will write a story of what it’s like to live in a gingerbread house. In math we will analyze the fractions of the parts of a gingerbread house. Social Studies will be an exploration of where gingerbread originated (Germany) and the largest city that makes gingerbread houses (Nuremburg). In science we will do an experiment to test how we can save the gingerbread man from getting wet. A paper bag gingerbread house will be coming home either Monday or Tuesday.

Tuesday:  The morning will be filled with sugar plums, gingerbread, and of course, frosting! We will work with helpful 5th graders to make the edible gingerbread houses. These projects will come home with them. They are graham crackers over sealed milk cartons. Most everything on the house should be edible (if it makes it to the house!). After resource, we will go to the cafeteria and do a sing-along with the Lakeland HS ASL (sign language) group. When that’s finished, we will look at stuffing Santa’s sleigh (a science experiment) and finding out how to map the Polar Express (Social Studies) for Polar Express Day.

**Notes:  students will be allowed to wear pajamas to school Tuesday, December 20. Please make sure they are shirt/pants pajamas. Also make sure you adhere to the school dress code. Students may bring the pajamas to change into at school if you wish. If the weather is fine, we will have outdoor recess.
