What We’re Learning and Doing, December 12-16, 2016

Posted by: Susan Markham | December 12, 2016 | No Comment |

**Progress Reports go home Wednesday, December 14.

Reading:  We are working with holiday stories and doing word work, reading skills, and writing with the stories. We are also using our reading series for the story of the week as well as the skills.

Math: We are finishing time to the half hour and will start sorting.

Science:  We will review science skills while working with our holiday books. These include temperature that dissolves sugar and STEM activities (science, technology, engineering, and math).

Social Studies:  We are learning about holidays, customs, and traditions. We are looking at different countries and their traditions. People from different ethnic origins bring their customs and traditions with them to help the community when they come to live in Virginia.

Notes:  Each day is a different themed day regarding holidays and traditions. Monday is Peppermint/Candy Cane day. None of these days require anything to be sent in or volunteer time.

Our last day before winter break is Tuesday, December 2o. It is a full day. We will do gingerbread houses that morning with the 5th grade helpers and do Polar Express that afternoon.
