October 2008

http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/idb/pyramids.html

Take a look at this site.  Choose a couple of countries that you are curious about and have a population pyramid constructed.

Record which countries you researched and your analysis of the country’s demographics?

1.  Thursday:  a)  play your 3 games for review

2.  Monday:  a) 1st 9 weeks test = 50 multiple choice and essay questions    b)  have your lab journal complete and up to date

(3RD BLOCK:  I FORGOT TO REMIND YOU TO COMPLETE YOUR “ECOSYSTEM IN A BOTTLE” LAB.  YOU HAVE QUESTIONS TO COMPLETE FOR THE CONCLUSION PART.  CHECK YOUR LAB HANDOUT.  THIS IS NOT DUE TIL MONDAY, BUT I FELT BADLY THAT I FORGOT TO MENTION IT TODAY IN CLASS.)

3.  Study all your vocabulary, CHAPTERS 1-3, for the test.

4. Take a look at your “possible” essay questions! :-)

5.  News Review due:  Please follow the rubric guidelines.

http://www.quia.com/shared/bio/

Choose “Rags to Riches” for game type

Topics:    1.  scientific method    2.  organic molecule   3.  ecology

Please do one in each topic for review for the 9 weeks test.

Please begin to complete your Ecosystem lab write-up.  You have put together your “liter ecosystems”  now and so you should be able to have a nice color drawing of the system and some observations of the timing, etc. of how and when the system went together.

Complete the data analysis questions.   Due FRIDAY, Oct 31st.

From the PP interactive notes, please work through the first 10 slides on nutrient cycles.

***  These cycles (water, carbon, hydrogen, and phosphorus) are a testament to the Law of the Conservation of Matter.

Please review all your PP notes, beginning to surf study for your 9 week test.  It is 50 m.c. questions (all biology classes in the district will be takin the same one) and then a few extra essay questions for all honors and IB biology.

See you at the movies!  (The Secret Life of Bees)

Paper has become a “gold” commodity at KFHS this year.  :-)

And so, I would appreciate each student/family contributing a ream of plain paper (white or color) to help provide for the paper that I use to make copies and notes for our class.    I understand that not all families may be able to do this, so it’s just an option if you are able.  :-)

Thanks,

Mrs. Story

Addidional business items:  Many of you did not remember to water your plants before the weekend!  You could be facing charges of plant parent neglect!!  :-0   If your baby plant shows signs of hydroradishimee- baby-abuse, you will owe the director of the nursery 10 push-ups!

Don’t forget to read Ch. 2 … especially about enzymes and reaction rates.

Congrats to the JV Football team’s win!

Have a safe and good weekend.
