You can practice your vocab and contribute rice toward the UN’s food program. Let me know what level of vocab you reach. Getting to the high 30’s is very good! :-)

Hi Rae … congrats on setting up that neat competition with your friend. Glad you had fun and enjoyed “the giving!”
Hi Tommy … nice to hear from you here! Glad you liked the rice site. You did very well on the level. I’m looking forward to reading your writing. It looks like you have a very good vocabulary stockpile to draw from! YEA!

My sister actually showed me that site before! We like to challenge each other to see who can get the highest vocab. level! The highest I got was 22, haha, well vocabulary is NOT my thing! But free rice is a great way to practice!!
July 27th, 2008 at 8:22 am
Hi Mako,
Hey … don’t worry about that score! Sometimes a serious of words gets to me, too and just donating the rice is cool! Ms Story
July 27th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Hey! That was fun, and totally addicting! I donated like 5140 grains of rice, but only got to 35. some questions I could have answered, but I just answered the first one i saw that COULD have been. Then after I clicked it I realized what the real answer was a spit second before it told me.

Hey Ms. Story,
That was a pretty neat website! I think it’s great that by knowing just a few vocabulary words you can help save loads of hungry people. My highest score was 40, but it had dropped in the 20s by the time i got to about 1,800 grains! I’m not the best at vocabulary…my parents said I should read the dictionary for practice, but I think this would help me so much better. (It’s for charity, and hey, it would be loads easier.)
July 28th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Hi Emily and Heather … CONGRATS on making it so far! You both did very well. So glad you like the site. I love it, too. Sometimes we will end class by logging on to this site and then we’ll all do it together! Collaborative Intelligence
I’m looking forward to having you in class …

July 30th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Hello Ms. Story
I like that website seeing that I like vocabulary, which is weird since English is my worst subject! My high score was 35. I may go to that website again (not sure).
July 30th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Dezmond … 35 is a great score! Way to go!
Ms. S.
Ethan … no, this one is for fun! But … how did you do?
Ms S.
July 30th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Hi, Ms. Story.
that was fun! It made me laugh everytime the little voice pronounced a word. especially ‘hauteur,’ (which means arrogance btw) xD
well anyways, my score kept going up and down around 32-35 but my hightest score was 40. i donated 1180 grains of rice, AND I FEEL SO ALIVE. lol, no seriously, it feels nice doing something good for someone else. ;D
July 30th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
oh and burry and burl are hilarious too! xDD
July 31st, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Hey, for the other Ethan, can you please put your last name or initial? Just something to identify us as two different people…
July 31st, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Wow. This really is addictive.
I can’t imagine how much time I must have spent on it! My donation was 10,360 grains of rice and I got up to level 43. Don’t ask me how, I’m still not sure.
The best thing is I know it’s for a great cause.
I’ll definitely be going back to play again.
Doing it with the whole class is a great idea. If two brains are better than one, imagine 20!

Hi Ethan G.
Nice job on the rice contribution!! Yes, it is a bit addictive.
We will have fun with the whole class contributing!

I donated 780 grains of rice and my best level was 23…this is pretty cool. I mean, kids can work on their vocab while working on stopping world hunger! GO GREEN!! PLANT A TREE AND STUFF!!! YEEEEEAAAAYYY!!!
I agree with Sharon, though, the pronuciation of some the words are funny.
August 5th, 2008 at 11:11 am
Hi Ms. Story,
I had fun on this particular website because I didn’t know I knew so many different words. My level kept rising and falling but my highest was 31 and I donated 7,540 grains of rice.
August 6th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Hi Brandon,
Nice work. I’ll have to check out some of the pronunciations!
Hi Ashanti,
Glad to see you spent so much time … that’s a lot of rice! Way to go!

Hi Ms. Story
I really liked that website! It was a great way to expand my vocabulary but i think i still need some work because my highest was like 20. On the plus side i did donate like 1800 grains of rice.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Hi Ms. Story,
My best level was 42. Most of the words were kinda easy.
August 14th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Garrison,
Glad you like the practice. Great rice donation!
Sharryl,
WOW … way to go! I want you on my team!
Ms. S.

Hi again Ms. Story it’s Julius. That’s cool. I donated 1900 grains of rice and my level was 30. Some of the words were sort of tricky because they were so simple. I wonder do they really donated 20 grains of rice every time you answer a question right? If so, it would be fun and very helpful at the same time. I’ll still need to expand my vocabulary though. It feels good inside to know that I am helping people out tremendously by just using my English knowledge! Talk to you later Ms. Story!

Hey Ms. Story,
I finally got on to do the blogs…haha…but i did this one and it was pretty fun…my best level was a 40…but that’s only because i guessed on most of the words…=]…I donated about 220 grains of rice…
August 22nd, 2008 at 9:56 am
Ms. Story,
Thanks for the compliment.
August 22nd, 2008 at 9:57 am
Ms. Story,
It was actually kinda fun.
August 22nd, 2008 at 8:40 pm
I LOVE THE RICE VOCAB SITE. I started out trying to see how many grains I could donate in two minutes and ended up stopping after 12 minutes. I donated 1180 grains and had a high score of 40. My average score lingered between 34 and 37. I will definately be using this site to improve my vocabulary.
August 25th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Hey Mrs. Story
That is just awesome! I just donated 600 grains of rice! My level was only 21 but I’m not the best in grammer
It’s stil pretty cool that I can do he simplest things that can help out people who aren’t as lucky a I am.
Ron S.
August 25th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Hi Ron,
Congrats on your 600 grains of rice! Good job.
Sharryl … it IS fun to practice vocab this way. Learning new vocabulary is always a challenge.
D’Shawana,
What an excellent job. If we have teams in class … I want to be on your team! I’m guessing you have done a lot of reading .. yes?
August 26th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
I have been doing a lot of reading actually. Most of my readings have been for pleasure but my mom has turned me on to the classics.
August 31st, 2008 at 7:44 pm
This is is really cool, i like the fact that they donate rice to people who are starving. I think i got to level 22 i don’t remeber… but i did it !
September 1st, 2008 at 9:46 pm
That was sort of easy, I donated about 700 grains the first time I did this, but it’s a good time consumer. It helps when you know words that look similar to the words they quiz you on; and they do repeats, too. Hopefully they keep up their promise and send those grains of rice to somewhere in need.
