For second semester,

1.   students need to refresh their supply of notebook paper

2.  buy a box of colored pencils at the dollar store.  I would like each student to have their own box as we will be doing a lot of diagramming this next semester.

3.  remove from their 3-ring binder all their work/notes/review sheets from 1st semester and keep it in a safe place at home to study from for the SOL’s in May

4.  If they have forgotten to bring their textbook to the exam, then it MUST BE HERE BY Jan 31st! They are all being scanned.

5.  Topics to be covered this third 9 weeks:  photosynthesis, cell respiration, DNA structure, mitosis, meiosis, protein synthesis and genetics.  Lots of fun stuff ahead.

It’s time to think about what science class to take for next year!!!!  :-)  Many of you have done SO well in my ecology or biology class and I want to encourage you to continue on in science.

Fo r my Junior Class ecology students:  Please consider taking the AP Environment class. Many of you have really done well in Ecology and you’ve really matured as students who are able to ”connect the dots” between many disciplines.  You have come so far in understanding the global interconnectedness that affects our living ecosystem and I think you would really enjoy this class, you would do very well, and you have a GREAT shot at earning college credit.  The class needs 10 students to “run” … I think I have almost 10 great junior ecology students that could easily fill this requirement. So … think about it!  :-)

Biology Students.  If you are earning an A or B in biology class, then you should be strongly considering chemistry for next year … especially if you are an A student! You will take Algebra II concurrently with chemistry.   Our chemistry teacher, Mrs. Boone, assures me that this is very possible and a good route to take.  I wholeheartedly agree. :-)

For future jobs in the 21st century, today’s high school students need to keep themselves actively engaged in taking as much math and science as they can get.  I have every confidence that all of you will be very prepared for whatever science you choose to take;  AP Environmental Science, Chemistry or any other.

With this theme, what are some ideas for a display case here at KFHS?

1.  Make a list of objects that you’d put in a display case here at school and why you would use each?

2. Could the display case be “interactive” in any way to get students to stop and take a look???
