So what if 5 years ago you’ve moved out of the city to the beautiful mountain region of VA and it’s been peaceful as you’ve hoped. You do all the environmentally good things you can; recycling your papers and plastic, conserve on water and you’ve put solar panels on the roof to help heat your home. Now your neighbor, who owns a majority of the mountain land, wants to lease his land (the very top of the mountain) to a company that will put up large, large windmills (turbines). These windmills will supply the area with low cost, carbon-free energy. What do you see as the pros and cons for having these windmills on the mountain top?

the wind mills will take up more room on the hills, but will cost less to produce energy. if the main power shuts down the wind mills can be used for back up power for people around the area. Wind mills would be a better choise than a nuclear power plant, because they will not cause an evacuation for the area people live in. this is why wind mills are a better choise.

Yo ms.story so im in your ecology class first block. And i just finished making some pretty sweet pictures, definitly a 100 test grade. But yeah so you wanted me to blog about this mountain story thingy. If i moved up to the mountains and had this great view i would be pretty “upset”, if somebody put windmills right in front of my bomb view. But it would benefiet (i probaly spelled that wrong) the enviroment. And since i am supposedly so into the enviroment then i would be happy that they did something beneficial. Instead of using something like a power plant windmills are a good way to use power. Without polluting the air. And now im done. Goodbye ms.story. (i should get a test grade for this).

Thomas … Some good thinking here. I agree with your points.
Ben … Looking forward to those sweet pics! I like that you presented some issues on both sides of the story. Now … about gettin that test grad … um.
Kasi … Hi to Bobby! PS: Remind him to attend more school this year! What you’ve expressed is a very common thought and it has a name: “NIMBY” Not in My Back Yard.

Hi, Ms. Story, I think I would be very mad at my neighbor because its going to be a lot of noise because of them building the stupid thing. Plus I would feel everything is fine the way it is so why change it…. Like Ben stated in his blog it would be beneficial to our way of living but i also feel it would be unnecessary. Well I’m sleepy now so I’m going 2 go.
Bye Ms. Story!!! :0)

If I had a neighbor who want to put a wind farm on the top of the mountain that he leased to a company I would support him. Only because it is cheaper and cleaner energy. I would help him get it approved to.
