I’m curious ; Students, what does it mean to you ‘to study for a test?’ What exactly do you do? What distracts you while studying? Do you ever fall asleep? Do you ever study with someone?Who? On an average, how many minutes can you stay focused on studying for a before losing concentration?

i usually study alone. it takes me about two minutes to get distracted. studying to me means to sit in a quiet room and just focus on what you are suppose to be studying.

I only study for something i dont understand or something wasnt paying attention. I always study by myself unless we are reviewing in class. I sometimes make flashcards and teach myself. I may sometimes call up a friend in my class and we will discuss certain things over the phone. I think if you study you will be successfulin life and you will have a better understanding.

Kenisha — it’s hard for me to stay focused past 2 minutes sometimes, too. Disciplining yourself is a tough skill to acquire, but always worth it.
Kasi — yup, you caught me having a “isn’t this fun” moment with the stamp! Haha! Glad you have your Dad to help you study. I know studying isn’t always fun to do.
Kiara — Calling a friend for review is good. It’s been proven that small study groups in college usually pay off in better grades overall, especially with tough subjects.

WELL MOST OF THE TIME I DONT STUDY I JUST TRY TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION IN CLASS. WHEN I STUDY SOMETIME IT JUST MAKES ME FORGET. WHEN IT COMES TO A TEST I STUDY FOR ABOUT 45MINUTES OR SOMETIME LESSS THAN THAT BECAUSE I WILL FORGET WHAT I AM DOING. BUT NOW I SEE WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO STUDY CAUSE THE STUFF STAYS IN YOUR HEAD.

To study for a test I make flash cards and yes I do fall asleep in the process so I never get all my studying done. In average I can stay focused for about 10 to 12 min. without getting bored. To me studing means to review what you went over in class for a test.

For me to study i have to be in a quiet place like the closet, bathroom, or in a car. I uselly study for 2 hours or 30 min but if i am in a room that is not quiet then i cann’t study at all and i will be in the talk with the people.I like to study with my friends because we talk about the study and have fun.

I sometimes study alone because i want to see how much i know. I also study alone because i want to better myself and also no one can take my knowledge away from me. Another reason i study alone, if i make a mistake i could see the careless mistakes i make without anyone helping me. Finally when it comes time for me to take the test no one will be able to help me so i prepare myself for the information that will be on the test.

Well Mrs. Story…. I almost everyday. Mostly I study at night after I finish all my homework. I study in my room or downstairs in my living room. I usally study really hard if I have a test or a quiz and I know I don’t know the material that well. Studying to me is very essential to learning it helps me remember and refresh my memory of the things that I have already reviewed in class. I can’t study with friends because I get distracted easily so I usaully study by myself.

Its hard for me to study if its completely quiet. I need to turn on the t.v. or radio. If I was to study in complete silence I’d most likely fall asleep. It would be hard for me to concentrate when there is no sound I don’t know why but I guess it disturbs me. I study like for 30 minutes then take a break and then study a little bit more. I do that because everyone needs a break and if you study to hard you may forget what you studied.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:16 am
usually i study by going in a room in my house with no music and no t.v and try to study. each class i try to study atleast 30mins, maybe an hour if i have a test the next day.
Things that usually distract me are work and my nephews, but its ok i still make the grade

When I have to prepare myself for a big test, I usually try not to wait until the last minute. Studying in advance is a tool I use because cramming a bulk of information doesn’t work for me. Flash cards and study partners are other tools I use to study.

When I study for a test, I usually study alone. I don’t mind studying with other people, but sometimes our studying skills aren’t the same and it would be difficult for me to understand their study skills and mine. If I study without any electronics on, I could study without being distracted; but if the t.v. or the radio is I would stop studying and watch t.v. rather than study.

Studying for a test is sitting in a quit place with your book or studyguides and going over and reviewing them until you can basicly memorize it when the question is asked and disipling yourself.
September 27th, 2007 at 3:07 pm
When I study for a test most of the times I study alone in my room. When I study I turn everything off so I can concentrate on studying. If I don’t,I will distracted and stop studying and watch t.v.

hey ms. story, so when i study for a test (whenever i do) i usally listen to my ipod so i cant hear anything else because my house is always loud. i usally sit on my bed and open my book or look though my notes to study them and then i take a break and then i go back and look at them again to make sure i got everything. then i usually go to bed. well see u tomorrow morning 1 block.

I usually study when I am bored and have nothing to do. When I do study I try to study everything that we learned. I usually only take about 2-3 hours to study maybe a lot less. My 360 usually distracts me while I try to study, my computer also contributes to distacting me. If I do plan on studying I get it done.

Latavia … paying attention in class is more than half the battle won in doing well in a subject. Good thought
Brittney … music can be a good way to help keep our distractions and help one to focus.
James … your classmates agree with you that the readily avaiable technology in one’s room or house can be a serious distraction to studying.
Allen … I agree with you and others that there is no way around the fact that memorizing is a big part of learning. That’s how we learned the alphabet and to count. Having tricks to help one memorize helps take some of the “pain” away.
Tiara … reviewing your notes ahead of time is a great idea. One just needs the discipline to do it - hey! I remember coming back from organic chemistry and every night reviewing all the notes I took that day with a highlighter and every day’s notes before that one. There was so much material so fast, it was the only way I could get it all memorized by test day. I was so proud of that notebook in the end … I think I still have it!
Ashley … sounds like your nephews are fun!

i only study sometimes when im really stuggling with something otherwise, i can pretty much remember anything. I get distracted very easily so i try to get away somewhere where people arent going to be around like in my room with the door closed. it takes me like 30 seconds before i start getting distracted. I do all sorts of things until i remember when what i was doing there at my desk in the first place. I only study with people over something big like finals or mid-terms or else i get distacted and we talk about other things. oh yea and yes sometimes i do fall asleep. i hate that though because when i wake up in the morning i am sleeping on my books, ouch!
October 1st, 2007 at 9:03 am
well i usually study with one of my class mates in my neighborhood because i can attend to fall asleep lol if im studying by myself.

Hey Ms. Story I think that studing for a test is very important because it gets u better grades in class.
October 3rd, 2007 at 12:54 pm
I have the bad habit of studying right before tests, but I usually do good on them when I study like that. Usually if I study the night before to take the test the next day, I’ll forget the information. I have to keep everything that I’m studying current in my mind.

Hi Ms. Story….Ummm about the study thing I usually study alone or get my mommy to help me. It doesnt take alot to get me distracted. I usually listen 2 my iPod because then I zone out and only focus on what I’m doing. I dont study very long so approximately about 30 minutes and then I get sleepy :0)
Well ttyl

I think studying means to study alone. I study for a test for like twenty minutes at a time. I study the important things first. I have noise distracts when I study. I never fall asleep when studying. I never study with somebody. I can study forever and never lose concentration.
October 16th, 2007 at 6:54 am
Edwin … Sounds like you know yourself very well when it comes to taking tests. You certainly have the ideal set-up for studying! I wish I could say that I “NEVER” fell asleep while studying!
If you like learning, which I think you do, I bet you’ll continue to do well in each step of school ahead.
