Story Time

Welcome Biology Students!

Welcome to Ms. Story’s blog … a connection between the King’s Fork High School science students of room B118, myself and other interested participants.

It is my hope that in blogging together we will develop valuable conversational skills through a written format that utilizes interactive, ongoing dialogue between students and student with teacher.  I’m anticipating that this forum will enhance your success in my class this year and help us develop a positive and healthy relationship for the upcoming 2008-2009 school year.

Please respect everyone’s comments!  Developing conversational skills that value the ‘other’ is a vital step toward becoming a respected leader and participant in our society.  Many of our topics will require learning basic foundational information in order to understand the many complexities that are involved in living systems.  However, many of the topics also include areas of ambiguities … areas that require decision making skills which incorporate ones values and opinions.  It is in these areas that we all come to the table of conversation with out own viewpoint, viewpoints shaded by our culture and personal experiences.  Therefore, developing our skills of respect and value for the ‘other’ is always a necessary component to keeping our conversations on this blog (and in the classroom) open and safe for all of us.

As your instructor, I envision the possibility of you becoming biologists, geneticists, bio-technicians, doctors, nurses, lab techs, DNA crime lab investigators, environmentalists, psychologists, food technicians, bioengineers, pathologists … the possibilites are endless!   As your journey into science takes off, I look forward to an academic adventure with all of you.
