First off, I am going to try to get back to posting consistently what we have done in class so when you’re absent or forget you can check on what you missed from home!

So…

1)  Journal Entry # 6:  Write three portraits of yourself in the third person.  Each portrait should describe a different aspect of your personality.  (This is a written portrait, not a picture!)

2)  I return to you your ‘hero’ writing from about a week ago.  You add a paragraph or two about how Beowulf exhibits the character traits and actions of a hero.  Then, improve and edit your whole paper so that it is cohesive (smooth transition, intro, conclusion…) and write a final draft.  Turn it in.

3)  Beowulf, Part 2 questions:  Literature book, p. 40, #’s 1-10.  Answer all questions in complete and thorough sentences.

4)  HW:   Anglo-Saxon history and Beowulf test next class; your notes will count as 20% of the test grade…do not forget them!!!!!  Here’s a template for the notes:  Unfortunately, I am randomly being told that my file does not meet security guidelines.  (?)  If  you email me, I’ll send it to you, but all I did was type up what I had written on the board.

1)  Turn in your journal! If you didn’t turn it in today, I’d better have it by Friday!!!!!!!!

2)  Informational materials:  read and discuss pages 916-919 in the Literature book and complete the accompanying worksheet.  (You’ll need to get this one from me if you missed it.)

3)  Finish reading Chapter 8 in LotF (and begin Ch. 9).

4)  Questions covering Chapters 7 and 8 of LotF are due next class.

*Our culminating assignment on Lord of the Flies will be an essay addressing the theme.  Continue as you read to make note of characters and events that support Golding’s assertion that man is in his essence evil (or stated differently, there is a struggle between civilization and savagery within man).

1)  Define the words illogical, cultivate, subtle, placid, and reliable.  (Second block:  I got confused and showed you the next slide with anguish, tilled, bias, analogy, and ambiguous.)  Remember, this should be on the same page with the previous set of words and will be used on your final exam…if you don’t lose it.  ;-l

2)  Chapter 7 reading check:  complete the following (checked for a classwork grade)  Ch. 7 Reading Check LotF

3)  We read the first half or so of Chapter 8 together.  A juicy action chapter…

4)  HW:  Journals are due next class!  Also, make sure you’re keeping up to date with your LotF questions.

Have a great weekend!  Happy birthday to me!  (haha)

1)  Journal #9…Journals due next week!

2) Review as a class using the “quizzes” that are posted under the page ‘LotF links.’

If you want credit for a quiz that we didn’t do in class, just do the quiz online and bring me the page with the grade.  :-)
