1)  Literary terms PPT slide number 4:  Define myth, satire, ballad, and romance.  List these on the same paper with the previous three sets…and turn them in!

2)  After some discussion of Simon’s allegorical significance as seen in his actions in chapter three, we (well, mostly I) read chapter 4, “Painted Faces and Long Hair” together.

3)  Chapter 3 and chapter 4 questions (LotF Ch. 4 study questions) are due on Monday/Tuesday when we take the quiz on chapters three and four.  Remember, the chapter three portion of the quiz will require you to synthesize the quotes that you found into a paragraph supporting the portrayal of Jack as being like an animal (these quotes may be direct or indirect characterizations of Jack.  (You’ll turn you quote sheet in as part of the quiz grade.)

For the chapter four portion of the quiz, you will write a “diary” entry from the perspective of either Ralph, Jack, or Piggy as might have (though wasn’t, since they didn’t have paper ;-) ) have been written the night after the missed ship/killed pig incident.  Really, as long as you understand the chapter, you nearly won’t be able to go wrong.  Make sure that the facts referenced from the conflict are accurate and that the emotions that your chosen character are logical… (and don’t use “texting” language)

 Have a great weekend!!

p.s.  First and fifth blocks will likely be extended on Monday due to the 11th grade English SOL test.
