Shakespeare & Act I quiz February 28, 2008
Posted by Mrs. Weatherly--Eng 12, Public Speaking! in Shakespeare, tests/quizzes.add a comment
As some of you likely saw via ParentConnect, I had high hopes of finishing Act I of Julius Caesar at the beginning of the week and taking a quiz on the background material about Shakespeare’s life and Elizabethan theatre as well as Act I of the play on the 26th and 27th. That turned out to not be reasonable, so students should expect a quiz on the same on Monday and Tuesday (3/3-4)! In general, we will quiz on a given act as soon as we finish reading it. Keep your notes organized (to use as a resource on quizzes and for the end of quarter notebook check) and review what we have read after class each day!
I’m sorry I forgot to update at the beginning of the week; I will redress the error!

#5 2/26-27 (T-W)
Write from the perspective of the last tree standing in a forest.
#6 2/28-29 (R-F)
What do you need in order to be able to write?
Here’s a quote for inspiration: “A writer needs three things, experience, observation, and imagination, any two of which, at times any one of which, can supply the lack of the others.” William Faulkner

get a copy of Lord of the Flies by William Golding. You can check it out from a public library if you don’t want to buy a copy. We will be reading this novel during fourth quarter, and everyone will need a copy! If you don’t have a copy, then you’ll have to stay after school to do some of the reading.
It’s a good book; you’ll like it!

1) Journal Entry #1: For what reasons do you want to graduate from high school?
Everyone, please remember, the required length for each entry is twelve lines, then you will write a two page rough draft and edited final draft from one entry. Let’s not blow this grade…again! (OK?)
2) I checked the Vocabulary 7 worksheet for completeness and we went over the answers. So if you were absent, show it to me as soon as possible. And if you didn’t have your worksheet when I checked them, you need to write a tenth grade caliber sentence with each word to redeem the grade. The quiz is Friday 2/15 and Tuesday 2/19!
3) We played a review game and then took our poetry terms quiz.
4) Some bells completed GUM workbook page 221 on usage errors. Ask a classmate (or me) to find out if this applies to you.
5) Classwork/homework…um, I’m at home and I can’t remember the page number. I’ll have to get back to you in the morning. It was Language book page ____, rules ___ and ___, and Exercise 3. Sorry…
6) Please bring whatever you have typed up so far for your poetry project to class on Friday/Monday! Presentations will be given and projects will be turned in on next Wednesday and Thursday; don’t let it slip up on you! (Note: These are the only two days on which presentations will be given.)

1) We have a poetry terms quiz next class!
2) Also, you have just a tad more than a week to finish your poetry project (a test grade)! Please bring your information with you to class; you may have some time to work on it. If you need help, arrange to stay after school; I’m more than happy to help you. You can comment/email me, too.
3) We’re checking Vocabulary WS 7 tomorrow/Thursday. Vocabulary quiz 7 will be on Friday February 15/Tuesday February 19. (Monday the 18th is Presidents’ Day, so we don’t have school!)
4) Finally, seventh block has a special homework assignment due tomorrow 2/6. It’s page 463 in the Language book, exercises A, B, C, & D. Other bells may do this assignment for extra credit.
5) I almost forgot… second block didn’t meet yesterday, so you will see an ‘e’ for excused in the gradebook for “SOL Practice 2004 RLR.” I would love for you to do this practice, but we don’t really have class time to devote to it. If you can squeeze this assignment in after you finish your other work or after school or during first or fourth block, I’ll give you a grade for this, too. Does anyone need to boost their grade??
