Week of June 9th
The skill focus for reading is nonfiction and fiction materials. Check out books on Sound, White Light, Basic Plant Anatomy,Life Processes,Virginia Natural Resources,1st ,Westward Expansion inventions,impact, Abolitionist, Suffrage,Civil War,Constitution

In Math We will review some skills on Study Island and start some 6th grade skills.

In Science We will create ABC booklets about what they learned this year in Science

In History We will create ABC booklets about what they learned this year in History.

In Writing we will review some figurative language.

Please have your child read an AR book for 20 mins. each night,then write a summary about it & Parent signature. Study the Pack,Essential knowledge,Study Island,Jefferson Lab,SOLPASS,STARS,History,Math,& Science Notes nightly. Students need to take some AR test each week. School News

**Reminder for SOL testing and benchmark dates**

May 19th, 2014

Hello Parents,

Please remember that SOL testing begins this week. Here are a few things you can do at home to ensure this is a successful event for your child:

Make sure your child gets a good night sleep.
Please send your child to school with at least 2 no. 2 sharpened pencils.
Please remind your child to show their work for each test.
History State test-Monday, May 19th

Reading State test- Friday, May 23rd

Reading 4th 9wks Benchmark test- Tuesday, May 27th

Math State test part 1- Monday, June 2nd

Math State test part 2- Tuesday, June 3rd

Science State test- Friday, June 6th

Please use the VDOE website for released test and a key is included with each test and also use the archived test as well.

Math Midpoint benchmark 4th nine weeks,Wed. May 14th**Study**

Hello parents,

The students will take the 4th nine weeks Math midpoint benchmark on Wed. May 14th. Please discuss with your child about taking their time on the test and showing their work. Please use old test or quizzes to help study. Also use Study Island(strive for the blue ribbons in each section), textbook, notebook, and Jefferson lab.
It will cover the following skills:
SOL 5.13 Plane figures(square,rectangle,triangle,parallelogram,rhombus, trapezoid)
SOL 5.18 Variables & Open Sentences
SOL 5.2 a,b Equivalent fractions, order Fractions & Decimals from least to greatest or greatest to least
SOL 5.6 Add/Subtract Fractions, Mixed numbers, Reduce answers
SOL 5.14 Probability of an Outcome/Tree diagrams
SOL 5.8 a,b Perimeter,Area, Volume
SOL 5.3 Prime/Composite & Even/Odd numbers
SOL 5.8 c,d,e Equivalent measurements,Metric Systems, U.S. Customary
SOL 5.10 Elapsed time 24 hr. period

History SOL test is Monday, May 19th*Study*

Hello Parents,

I have asked the students that each night they are to study the following sections of the Essential Knowledge and the parent is to sign that section which will indicate that this section was drilled with a parent or guardian. Here are the following sections to review each night:

Tues- Study section US1.2-3 & Reread Chapters 1 & 2
Wed.-Study section US1.4, 5, &6 reread chapters 3,4, & 5
Thurs.-Study section US1.7,8,9 reread chapters 6,7,&8
Fri.- Review the study that will be sent home with your child on Friday

Study over the weekend using SOLPASS (password-smith), go to the VDOE website take the practice State test it also has an answer key, use Essential Knowledge, textbook,& refrigerator cards.

I have also attached different links that you can use for studying. Thank you for your support in your child’s education. (Please read the email that I sent out on May 13th for another copy of the study guides)

In Math we are working on Elapsed Time SOL 5.10, graded assignment with Elapsed Time on 4-24-14. Work on Study Island every night for blue ribbons. Keep reviewing previous skills.

In Science we are finishing up SOL 5.2 Sound unit Quiz April 23rd. Then start SOL 5.3 Light. Keep reviewing previous skills taught.

In History we are working on US1.9a,b,c causes, major events and effects of the Civil War. Read Chapter 8 , keep reviewing previous skills taught,reread chapters 1-7.
