Multiplication and Division

Good evening parents,
 
I would like to let you know what my plans are if the students have not told you yet regarding multiplication of basic facts. We have started to create flash cards, which after we create them, the students can keep them at home. We have already created the 0-5 times table and the students have tested on them already. Some students will be retested next Tuesday or Wednesday on the 3’s and/or 4’s. Please encourage the students to study those facts. We will be drilling up through the 12’s times tables eventually. My main concern now is through the 10’s. Once we have created all the cards, I will be testing them weekly and then possibly every other week to make sure that it’s sticking. Once we get to a certain point, I will be focusing on the harder facts. This will ensure success the rest of the year and help them tremendously in 5th grade.
 
We will be starting if some have not already, multiple digit multiplication, which will help with conversion of units between the customary and metric system. After multiple digit multiplication, we will dive into division, which 5th grade struggles with and I want my students to wow their 5th grade teachers when they get there and wow me as well.
