I can hardly believe that May will arrive this week!  Please make sure students get

 plenty of sleep and healthful meals this week for PALS testing.

This week’s focus is:

Writing-Research on a state.

Math 2.11 linear measurements, 2.10 money, 2.90 input/output.

Social Studies (SS) we will continue to learn about Economics: Bartering/money, scarcity,                                                                                                                    producers, consumers, goods, & services.

Homework:  April 29th -May 3rd

Read AR, fill in log, and be ready to test. Must have 85 % comprehension rate and completed 44% of your goal points by Friday! *Please Read AR daily and test.  For Chapter Books please aim for 2 pts. each week. Reading Rockets are due Friday!

Math homework is given Mon-Friday and is due the next day. An A. Math Exercise will be given each night. Students will complete at least 10 problems each night and return it the next day whether it is finished or not. Please help your child pack up as needed.

Skunks

Social Studies:Look at Study guide: All 4 out of 5 pages of SOL have been taught or are being taught now. there’s only one more page of SOLs is left for 4th nine weeks. Yeah! ancient China/Egypt Map skills!!! Famous Americans,  Native Americans, Diversity, Citizenship, and Map Skills These stay home.

New Science & SS study Guides are in your child’s homework notebook.  These will return daily. We are studying Science SOL 2.5 this week. Last week was Ancient china in SS. If your child didn’t retain the information help them study some more. You may use the answer and question pack too. Check it out on resources.

  • Students will read  AR, Monday -Thursday. To show that students are doing their homework each day they will AR test Tuesday through. If your child needs 2 days on a book please note that in agenda or meet with Teacher for Chapter books.
  • AR testing is open Monday- Friday morning for those who need or want to test.
  •  *Students reading chapter books must meet with teacher to make sure they are  on schedule.

Students will be working towards their goal their goal . Every Friday they earn money if they are on point from Professor Purple.

Majority of class has been behind on AR for past 2 weeks. Please let’s get caught up. Last nine weeks we were #1.

Please make sure your child is reading AR daily and ready to test in their zone.   Students need 85%-90% accuracy with their points. If they go below 85% or do not meet their points or AR level, they will lose their AR award at the end of the nine weeks. Last night weeks we had 4 students who barely missed their AR goal.  This quarter we are expecting 100% of our class to meet their AR goal.  Thank you for your support and all your hard work !

Last Nine weeks we had only 4 students who were below 85%. Our goal this 9 weeeks is to have 100% reading and testing with 85-90% accuracy.

Weekly Homework Schedule Overview:January 2013

**Read AR, Fill in Log, Parent/Guardian initial, Monday through Thursday.

** Math homework Monday due on Tuesday. Students will put their homework in their teacher’s box outside their math teacher’s door each morning before going to breakfast or taking an AR test. If they for get they may go back and get their homework at the beginning of math class.  ** Spelling notebooks are turned in each Friday. Complete two different spelling activities in the notebook each week and color the menu as you complete them.  We received new spelling menus in December that will carry us through the first few weeks of January.*Please SEE  Study Guides: I sent home the  2nd nine weeks Science Study Guide and I stapled in the SS = Social Studies to the back of the Science booklet. Every child had a study guide to keep at home.  I have given my class 2 extra copies of the SS study guide for Native Americans. January we are studying Famous Americans.

Dear Parents,

In Social Studies, we have been studying about American Indians.  The children need to be able to compare the lives of Indians in different geographic regions (clothing, homes, food, and transportation).

In order to help them make the comparison between regional groups, each child is to do a project on ONE group. Please help your child follow the guidelines listed below and complete and turn in the project by January 9, 2013.  Each student will orally present their project on that day.

1.  Pick ONE tribe.  (We have been studying these!)

2.  Decide on the project you want to do.

3.  Be sure your project includes something to show the following:

the name of the region

the kind of homes they had

how they adapted to their environment (food, occupation, transportation)

their contributions

2 other interesting facts (e.g. famous people, kinds of clothing, transportation, talents, activities of the women, activities of the men, activities of the children, special ceremonies, etc.)

Their Native American  Project will be Due Wed. Jan. 9, 2013. See project form in their agenda.
