Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. We were able to spend the weekend with our grandsons from Ft. Bragg which always a highlight for us.

Please note that we are collecting Boxtops for Education. You can send them in with your student to give to me.

After the end of the first semester, I will no longer be able to read the science and social studies benchmark tests to the students. Information on how to log on is in your newsletter.

This week the students will continue to have homework. They will have homework Monday- Thursday unless otherwise noted. Important things to know about homework are:
• The homework sheet for the week, along with the spelling words, will be glued in your child’s agenda on Mondays.
• Please make sure your child reads TO you every night for 20 minutes. This is in addition to the 20 minute district homework policy. They can check out books on Monday during library. However, if they need a new one before then, they can visit the library between 9:00 and 9:20 AM.
• The spelling words are part of the reading skills for the week so please check that they are doing one menu item nightly and returning the assignment to school every day.
• I will send home a reading passage that your child needs to read to you nightly.

We will work on the following skills in Reading this week:
• character, setting, plot
• words with the long a sound spelled with a, ai, and ay.

In Science this week, we will continue the unit on weather.

This week in Math the students will work adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers with “carrying” and “borrowing”.

In Social Studies we will begin the unit on Economics.

Mrs. Cindy Martie
