Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy Snowcation! As I am typing this, I have gotten THE phone call that says there will be no school tomorrow. This newsletter will look like last week’s as we will try again with spelling words, etc.

If you could check with your student about their school supplies (paper, pencils, crayons) it would be greatly appreciated. Many of the students are out of supplies.

I have 13 parents that requested to receive the reading homework sheets!!! If you want to continue to receive this homework for your child, please email.

Please check that your student is doing their homework.
Important things to know about homework are:
• Please make sure your child reads every night (preferably to you) for 20 minutes. This is in addition to the 20 minutes of homework allowed by the school district. They can check out books on Monday during library. However, if they need a new one before then, they can go before school.
• The spelling words are part of the reading skills for that week so please check that they are doing one menu item nightly and returning the assignment to school every day.
• On the weeks that your child has word sorts in the zipper pouch in the front of the binder, please make sure they practice nightly. They would normally have these weekly, but I won’t assign them for a sub.

We will work on the following skills in Reading we will continue to work on all the skills I’ve listed previously.

In Science this week, we will begin studying animal adaptations starting with camouflage.

In Math we will continue to work with fractions and begin to compare them. We will also work on finding the sum/difference for two digit numbers. If you could practice adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers with your student it would be a great help. This is a VERY difficult skill for many students.

In Social Studies will compare/contrast all 3 First American groups.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cindy Martie
