Welcome to Lakeland AFJROTC
Welcome to Air Force Junior ROTC at Lakeland High School in Suffolk, Virginia. Unit VA-20024 was established in 2002 and currently has over 135 cadets. It has been selected as a Distinguished Unit by HQ AFJROTC five times. The instructors SASI (TBD) and ASI Senior Master Sargent Terrell Rogers.
The AFJROTC program’s mission is to develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and their community. The basis of the curriculum is the three Air Force core values of Integrity First, Service before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. The curriculum consists of Aerospace Science including the history of air power, the science of flight, the exploration of space and global and cultural studies. The Leadership Education portion of the curriculum includes drill and ceremonies, leadership principles, communications skills, life skills, and financial management.
Lakeland High School AFJROTC maintains unarmed and armed drill teams, a color guard, a saber team, a drone team, and a model rocketry club and participates in a field day each year with the other Suffolk AFJROTC units. We have several community service projects each year and the curriculum includes field trips to Langley Air Force Base, Virginia Air and Space Center, the Fort Eustis confidence and leadership reaction courses, the Pentagon, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the US Capitol, and Arlington National Cemetery.
