On to the next!!!

Whew…. All City 2011 is now history.  Thank you to everyone who participated and to our wonderful chaperones for helping to make it a success.

Next on the horizon will be 20 of our Fabulous Forest Glen Strings students performing at 4pm on Sunday, April 3 at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.  They were selected to play in two pieces along with the Bay Youth String Orchestras.  Students will need to arrive at 2 for a last minute check with Mrs. S and will rehearse at 2:30.  Tickets are on sale at the SCCA.  We are very excited to be involved in this event!

Spring concert dates will be out soon.  I am still waiting to hear but will get on that with our administration now that All City is over.

Thanks for continued support.  If anyone wants to submit photos from last Friday, please email them to my school email and I’ll post them.

Exciting news for our Suffolk Public Schools music programs.

On February 23rd and 24th, the music programs from our  middle and high schools will present a Music Festival at the Suffolk Center for Culteral Arts.  The program will run from 5-8 both nights.  Forest Glen and Lakeland strings will perform Wednesday night at a time to be determined soon.  I have requested later because of the tryouts for many spring sports scheduled for that evening.

On Friday, March 25,we will hold our annual all city event at Kings Fork Middle School.  This year’s event will be for grades 7-12.  Next week, the selection process will begin for students who will be asked to attend.  Permission slips will be going home during the 2nd week of February.

I will be in need of parent volunteers to chaperone each event.  Please be sure you have your form on file at your student’s school.

Spring concert dates will be set soon.  Stay tuned for those dates!!

Please note:   The date and place of the Lakeland High School concert has been changed.  Sorry for the late notice, but we are now performing on Tuesday, December 14 at Forest Glen Middle.  This will be a wonderful holiday “celebration for strings”.  We will do a mix and match of groups and combine 6-12 for our finale.  Be prepared to enjoy this great evening of music and fun.

details:  arrive FG at 6, concert begins in the cafeteria after a brief meeting of the pta in the auditorium.

Thank you for your continued support.

concert time!!!

Ok, all you Forest Glen folks… we will be up first this year.  Our concert is the PTA meeting on December 14 at the FGMS auditorium.  All students should be working hard on their concert music.  It may seem like a looooonnnnnngggggg way off but it is actually right around the corner.  I try to remind them that we can’t wait to learn the music until we are in the holiday spirit!  Dress for this program is black on the bottom and white, red, or green holiday colors on top.  We can be festive and fun, but no T shirts with words written on them, please.  Do your best to look the part of a performer on stage!  Girls… NO SHORT SKIRTS!  Also, leave the jeans home that night.  A fun time is always had by all at this event.  Can’t wait to see all of you there!

LHS will be the grand finale this year.  Our Band/Orchestra/Chorus Holiday program will be in our auditorium on December 21.  High school orchestra dresses in all black.  Guys… you don’t need a coat and tie, but I do ask that the shirt be a dress shirt.  If you want to wear a festive holiday tie, that might be fun.  Walmart has them in stock for a steal this time of year but remember that kids all over Tidewater will be shopping for music programs so don’t wait too long!  Be sure to be dressed up, folks.  Please leave jeans and T shirts home.  You are ON STAGE after all.    I hope that all will be in attendance.  We look forward to having a great program and sending the school off to break with a great feeling of holiday spirit.

Check out our new poster soon to be seen at forest glen... We're krazy 'bout strings!!

Our newest 6th graders are on their way with perfect positions!

Welcome Back!!

Happy new school year, everyone!!!

I trust that all of you had a great summer.  I know that many of you played at music camps, took lessons, and came to our Wednesday drop in sessions at Forest Glen.  Those of you who need to rediscover your violin, viola, cello, or bass, never fear.  You will pick things back up in no time (or else)  :)    Remember, my cell is my work number if you need me after hours.  It is 642 2339.  Call and leave a message if I don’t pick up.  You can also use school email, of course.  karsitzler@spsk12.net is the best to use.

Looking forward to a GREAT year of music making and growth.  See you soon.

ps:  after this welcome note, school specific notes will be color coded for your quick “at a glance” check for info pertaining to you.

the LHS chamber orchestra puts Lakeland on the map

We’re Back!!

Wow! What a week.  The Chamber Orchestra and Cavalier Singers have returned from our life changing experience trip to New Orleans LA.  We met area high school students and played together.  We visited an amazing church, Trinity Episcopal, where we heard a HUGE pipe organ and then performed.  The workshop at Loyola was focused on what is important about music.  It was wonderful to see Dr. Montes again and have him work with us.  The concert Wednesday night was our best performance to date.  It was a total sharing, a true orchestra sound and playing with the organist on Rhosymedre was an added treat.  No looking back ever again. We aren’t going that way.  We will move forward to bigger and better.  Truly a memory that will last for years and years to come.  Congrats, LHS… you are on the map!
