JUNE 13, 2012 ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • SOL ACADEMY: Suffolk Public School Standards of Learning (SOL) Academy will be held at Nansemond River High School begining July 5-12, 2012 from  8:30 until 1:00 p.m. daily (excluding Friday). Students enrolled in the Direct Writing section will continue through July 19, 2012. Bus transportation will be provided and letter will be mailed with corresponding bus routes. Students will need to bring their own snack/ lunch.
  • This free SOL Academy is designed to provide students additional content remediation along with test-taking skills. The program will target students who have passed the course, but failed the SOL End-of-Course test with scores ranging from 365 to 399 for mathematics and 375 to 399 for other assessments. SOL Academy also provides students the opportunity to earn the verified credits required for promotion.
  • SOL tests will be administered on Thursday, July 12, 2012. The English Writing test will be administered July 16-19, 2012. A signed Acceptable Use and Internet Safety Policy (AUP) will be required – parent and student signatures required.

MAY 11, 2012 ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • The NHRS Spring Musical Footloose will be held May 11 – 12, 2012 at 7:30pm. in the theatre. Tickets are $5 for students and staff, $10 for regular. See Dr. Neighbours for more info.
  • Attention Seniors! The hoodies are now in !!! Please pick them up during lunch today. See Jamika or Nia with any question.
    • Free College Prep and Workforce Workshops for Juniors and Seniors are being held at the East Suffolk Recreational Center, Suffolk, Virginia. Come and Receive information and help in improving scores on the SAT and ACT tests! Much information and help will be offers in improving study skills and test-taking tips. Also, there will be help in the area of work ethics, resumes and successful jobs interviews and so much more. The dates for the remaining are May 12, June 9, and June 23. Each workshop is from 9:00 to 12 noon. These workshops are sponsored by the We Care Foundation. See you there!!!

For the BATTLE OF THE BAND 2012 The King Fork High School Dog Pound Showdown-Featuring performances from The Mighty Marching Bulldogs Of King Fork High School, The Might Marching Bookers of Booker T. Washington High School and your vey own Magnificent Marching Warriors of Nansemond River High School. The Battle of the Bands will take place at King Fork High School on Friday, May 25 @ 7 p.m. You do not want to miss this once in a lifetime event. Tickets are $10.00 and will go on sale starting Tuesday, May 8. Tickets will be on sale in the band office and durning all lunch shifts.
      • A Driver Business Association Scholarship is available to students planning to attend Tidewater Community College, to apply you must have at least a “C” average. See Mrs. Williams for additional information.
      • Reminder- Seniors please review scholarship due dates. It is inportant that you adhere to the dates in the bulletin. Application schould be in a week in advance if you would like the counselors or admionistrations to review & sign any documents, requiring signatures.

MARCH 29, 2012 ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • JUNIORS: A reminder that tonight is Junior Planning Night. You are encouraged to attend beginning @ 6:30pm.
  • Seniors, there are of number of scholarships and grants available at Paul D. Camp Community College to recognize outstanding performance and help students “Get Ahead”. Please see your guidance counselor for information and an application. This application deadline is April 6
  • .Mrs. Newell English SOL Tutoring is cancelled for today.
  • Auxilary tryouts for the marching warriors will begin on Monday, April 2, 2012. Tryouts for Majorettes, Flags, and Dancers will be held all week April 2 – April 6 from 2:30 – 5:30. You MUST have a signed permission slip from your parents to try out. See Mr. Woodis or Mrs. Gibson in the main office for a permission slip.
  • Reminder to all marching band members: You must bring all orders and monies for the Band Booster Tupperware Fundraiser on Tuesday, April 3. Tuesday’s rehearsal is mandatory for all band students.
