The learner will:
- explain what a wave is
- describe a medium and factors that affect a medium
- draw and label the components of a transverse and longitudinal (compression) wave
- describe the basic properties of a wave; wavelength, frequency, amplitude and wave speed
- describe the relationship between wavelengths and frequencies
- describe the interactions of waves; reflection, refraction, diffraction, and interference
- relate the properties of a wave to sound
- describe the relationship between amplitude and intensity of sound
- describe the relationship between frequency and pitch
- explain resonance
- explain the doppler effect
- explain technological applications of sound waves; sonar and ultrasound medical usage
