7th Grade Winds
Nov. 20 - Worked on parade of the Tin Soldiers backward and Echoes of Kyoto 44 to end.
Nov. 18 - Warm ups from page 18. Working on watching the conductor and playing with good tone. Students are preparing for December 9 Concert. Playing Echoes of Kyoto, Mission Impossible and Parade of the Tin Soldiers. Students were also talked to about District Band Auditions.
Nov. 6 - 2nd 9 weeks. New bass player in class. took time to tune the bass guitar. played through mission impossible.
Oct. 30 - established new routine for class. Warmup, etc. Tried to pass out christmas concerto but didn’t have enough parts. worked on Echoes of Kyoto. Learned C Major Scale, but it wasn’t in the book! So will need to figure out how to get it to them.
Oct. 28 - Worked on make up quizzes, played through scales.
Oct. 24 - Learned Ab major scale. Students are to practice up and down. Worked on Echoes of Kyoto. Worked on responding to the conductor. Will need work on this, and exercises to practice. Subdivision, counting the in-between notes, adjusting tempo. They have to practice with a metronome, clicking on the weak beats.
Oct. 16 - Went over scales. Reminded students of Scale Test on Monday. Played through 44 in the book. Didn’t get a chance to add winter music, because not enough parts. All students should have new practice records.
Oct. 14 - Got new practice records. Went over scales on Page 40. Went over Mission Impossible.

Sep. 2 - Students are to bring form back signed by parent. Instruments are due in class by September 8. We went over expectations. Students received folders and books. Any lost book will be the student’s responsibility to replace. There will be a seating competition next Friday, September 12, on Page 5, number 13 in their book.

Sep. 4 - Students were to have turned in parent information sheet. Students were to have brought with them a pencil, their music folder and their music book. We took review notes on time division, using a hierarchy chart that they filled in and corrected. We began to talk about time signatures and how whole notes do NOT always get 4 beats, but were interrupted by a fire drill. Instruments and all materials are due in class by Monday. Remember seating competition on Friday, Sept. 12. Page 5, number 13

Sept. 8 - Students should have their instrument in class by now. Passed back Note divisions Worksheets, made corrections. Played through the Essential Elements book and determined that #25 will be our starting point. There will be a seating competition on Friday of this week on number 25. Students are to begin practice records tonight. Due next Tuesday. Talked about student leader nominations: librarian, chair manager, stand manager, secretary, warmup leader. Students are to bring nominations Wednesday.

Sept. 10 - Played Concert Bb scale. Corrected many notes. Showed where to find it in the book. Played number 25 in the book, and went to number 26. Took volunteers for Historian and people voted. Students need to move air, and be aware of balance. Saxes bring your sound down, clarinets, play out. Trombone and French horn can play out as well. Brass continue to practice long tones to help you reach the higher notes.

Sept. 12 - Students underwent auditions today on # 25. Process went well. Only a few could not go due to time restraints. Next assignment: 26-35. Practice records due Tuesday.
Sept. 16 - Students learned daily warmups on page 30. Assigned that page, as well as page 7, 8, and 9. Still continuing auditions for seating. Brittany Corner, connor ran warm-ups
Sept. 18 - Took quiz on note divisions. Included down stems, and beams. Finished auditions. allowed Keith, Alexis, Deval to run warmup. Work on page 8 and 30.
Sept. 22 - Work on page 40, 30 and 8. Practice records were due today. Reminding everyone that if they can’t download and print the practice record, then they can use their own paper: Name, Dates, Times practiced, What they practiced, Total the minutes practiced, Signature of parent on the bottom. If you didn’t turn them in, please do so tomorrow. Chose band managers: Christian and Brittany M. Need to pass back quizzes on Wednesday.
Sept. 24 - Practiced Page 40, Students are required to memorize this page. Had a few more director’s assistants come up and try to conduct. Hugo beginning to make his final decision on Director’s Assistant.

Sept. 26 - Continued work on page 40 warm-ups. Need to finalize librarian.
Oct. 2 - Warmed up on page 40. Went outside for sectionals. Students wrote what went wrong and how to solve it.
Oct. 6 - Echoes of Kyoto, passed out Mission Impossible. Need Horn part. Went over 5-4 time signature.
Oct. 8 - Warmed up on page 40. Learned proper notes for concert E-flat scale. Mission Impossible. Worked on Echoes at last minute. Talked about talking, wasting time problem. “I don’t have time to practice” problem, how to solve it. Map out your schedule!
Oct. 10 - Good rehearsal on scales on Page 40. Keep memorizing concert Bb, Eb and F major scales. We’ll have a test on it. Also went over first part of Echoes of Kyoto, and a little bit of Mission Impossible.
