Cool New Music

Filed under: Cool Stuff, Music - General — Joleen Neighbours @ 7:58 AM

If you’re looking for something new to listen to, check out Jennifer Jayden.  She’s a friend of mine from college (go Elon music theatre alums!), who is an up-and-coming performer in the L.A. music scene.  Her music is pretty incredible–all original.

You can listen to full tracks at her ’songblog’ off of her website.  Check it out:

Music Appreciation – Blog Response #2, 2nd Nine Weeks #2

Filed under: Block 7 - Music App. — Joleen Neighbours @ 11:52 AM

Hi guys,

This response is due on Wednesday, November 26, 2008.  Answer the following questions, using complete sentences, and citing examples:

With the genre that you have selected, what NEW have you learned, so far, with your research?   Additionally, have you found any artists that you did not know of their music?  What do you like or dislike about the genre and the newfound artists?  Is this opening your mind to appreciation of new types of music?

Look forward to reading your responses!  This should also help with your upcoming project!

For Church — Children’s Choir

Filed under: General — Joleen Neighbours @ 7:55 AM

Hello all,

Here are links for the Children’s Choir at WRPC.  This was the easiest way to get you the music, without crowding your inbox.  Please email me at jolneighbours@spsk12.net if there are any questions, or if you have trouble downloading them.

You can do one of two things–open the file, which will automatically open it in Windows Media Player, then go to File: Save As, and put it on your computer.  OR, you can right-click and save it that way (if your computer will let you).

See you all at rehearsal on Tuesday night.

Well today was pretty cool, although we didn’t go over the classical history PowerPoint!  LOL!  You all have your genre project assignment as of today.  I enjoyed finding the different kinds of music for you, and having you listen to them.  Get adventurous sometimes and listen “outside of YOUR box.”  It’s very easy to get hung up in whatever is popular.

I’m posting a copy of the assignment itself, as the toner was low in the printer.  Here is the assignment for the project, due Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008:   2nineweeks_genre_project

Music Appreciation Blog Response #1 – 2nd Nine Weeks, #1

Filed under: Block 7 - Music App. — Joleen Neighbours @ 8:18 AM

Hey guys,

Here is your first topic for response for the 2nd 9 weeks.  Stay on task with the blog responses!  Not only do they affect your grade, but I personally enjoy learning more about you through your reponses.  It’s great to see you all becoming more and more culturally literate!

Peace ~ Ms. N.

Take the following quotes and discuss YOUR opinion of them, relating your knowledge of music thus far.  Include any examples of music in your opinion.  What do you think of music being the expressiveness that human beings need?

“Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.” ~ Unknown

“Words make you think a thought.  Music makes you feel a feeling.  A song makes you feel a thought.” ~ E.Y. Harburg

Theatre Class Blog Question #1 – 2nd Nine Weeks, #1

Filed under: Old Posts 2008-2009 — Joleen Neighbours @ 8:09 AM

Hey guys,

Here is your first blog question for response for the 2nd nine weeks.  Please stay on task with your blog responses this nine weeks!  Plus, I really enjoy getting to know more about you and how you think through these responses! :-)

Peace ~ Ms. N.

Question:

Think about Aristotle’s 6 principles of “good drama.”  Now, what has been your favorite film that you have seen lately, whether on DVD or in the theatre?  Why would you say that it was “good” for you or “good” in general BASED ON those 6 principles?  You need to site the area of which Aristotle discussed in relation to the movie that you liked.

Additionally, are you now looking at entertainment differently, as you study more about drama?  Do you find yourself becoming more critical? How so?
