Another wonderful day in kindergarten…

Hello,

School will be closed in honor of Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th. School will resume Tuesday, May 30th.

This week we will review synonyms, antonyms and introduce adjectives. Students will write phonetically and continue with concept of word strategies. We will discuss past and present as well as facts about Memorial Day. Students will review patterns by constructing and naming them.

The End of the Year Ceremony will be Friday, June 16th. Students are to dress accordingly.

Hello,

The Kindergarten Closing program is scheduled for Friday, June 16th at 10:00. Students are to dress accordingly.

This week we will recognize antonyms, review synonyms, identify high frequency words, vowels and complete story comprehension using- who, what, when, where why. Students will revisit coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter) and the value of each as well as count a collection of coins (pennies and nickels). Students will  discuss facts about Independence Days.

Hello,

Thank you so much for sending in water and juice boxes. The students had a wonderful time during Field Day.

Math/Science Night is Tuesday, May 9th, at 6:00.

This week kindergarten students will be involved in PALS testing therefore, some skills may change.

Also, this week the students will expand vocabulary using synonyms, review vowels and digraphs, review high frequency words, complete activities for concept of word  write phonetically, recognize fractions (1/2, 1/4) and identify patterns in nature.

The fundraiser items are here. If you haven’t already done so please pick them up as soon as possible.

Thursday, May 4th, we will be going to NRHS to see the high school drama club performance “Grease”.

Friday, May 5th, is Field Day. All kindergarten students are to wear blue t-shirts and sneakers. A donation of small bottled water and juice pouches will be greatly appreciated.

This week we will  recognize new high frequency words, review previously taught words, read and discuss fiction and nonfiction books, recognize long and short vowels, complete concept of word activities (COW), continue to discuss tallying and demonstrate an understanding of scientific reasoning and logic by conducting investigations/experiments.

Hello,

Please check your child’s backpack for information about Field Day. Two flyers were sent home in reference to parent volunteers and lunch for students.

Field trip permission slips and $1.00 are due Friday, April 28th.

Report cards will be distributed Monday, April 24th.

Kindergarten Braves Awards Ceremony will take place Tuesday, April 25th at 9:50.

This week we will continue to discuss COW, high frequency words, beginning, middle, and ending sounds, CVC words, recognize nonfiction books, identify signs and logos begin tallying and plants.

Hello,

I hope you all had a great spring break.

Thanks to all parents for sending in items requested for our Spring Celebration. The students had a blast. They even did the bunny hop!

The Kindergarten classes will be going to Nansemond  River High School to see the musical “Grease”. The fieldtrip is scheduled for Thursday, May 4th, 2017. The cost is $1.00. Please sign and return the permission slip accompanied with the money by Friday, April 28, 2017. Students will not be able to attend without the permission slip.

This week we will continue to write phonetically, identify high frequency words, complete COW activities, read and spell CVC words, discuss recycling, and continue to subtract numbers up to 10.

Hello,

The end of the third nine weeks is approaching. I will be retesting skills that were not mastered. Please review skill that were difficulty for your child.

This week we will continue to work on high frequency words, concept of word (COW) , generate words that rhyme, blend sounds to make words, demonstrate comprehension of nonfiction text and recognize words with glued sounds. TSW identify living and nonliving things as well

as identify coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter) and count a collection of coins using a penny and nickel up to ten cents.

Hello,

I would like to thank you for sending in boxes of tissues for the class. It is cold/ flu season and the students are really using a lot of them.

Please continue to work on personal information and high frequency words.

This week we will work on glued sounds (same as word families), high frequency words, concept of word, writing phonetically and dictation. We will continue to discuss map skills and introduce coins and their value.

Don’t forget to complete Reading Eggs activities daily.

Hello,

Thanks to all of you who came out for Read a Lot Night. The students seemed to have enjoyed themselves and so did I.

Tuesday, March 14th, the fourth and fifth graders will be presenting “A Tribute to Motown and Others.”. This is a show you will not want to miss. The students have worked really hard to put on a great performance.

This week we will continue to discuss author/illustrator, concept of word, high frequency words, spell CVC words, read and understand fictional text. The students will  identify objects in ordinal positions (1st-10th) and  also terms such as: near/far, above/below, left/right, behind/in front of, over/under, in/out and fast/slow. Students will recognize maps and globes as well as locate land and water features.

Please remember to complete Reading Eggs activities and play the sight word games.

Hello,

Tuesday , February 7th is Camp Read a Lot Night. Please plan to attend. Activities have been planned for all students.

This week we will identify author/illustrator, concept of word, high frequency words, identify words according to beginning, middle and ending sounds, write phonetically, understand that water flows downhill, investigate and understand that objects sink or float as well adding using up to 10 concrete objects.

Please remember to complete activities on Reading Eggs and also review high frequency words.
