No band parent meetings will be held on the same night of School Board meetings. We will decide a new meeting date on Sept 23.

Please bring your instruments to class every day. Percussionist will need their own sticks and mallets. When using bass drum and timpani mallets please be sure to wipe them after each use. Disinfectant wipes are available. All band students must wear a mask when not playing your instrument. I look forward to meeting you all. Have a GREAT NEW SCHOOL YEAR!!

Today is the last day of Summer Band Camp!! Camp hours will be from 3 pm to 9:30 pm. The time for the start of tonight’s game has been delayed due to the heat index for today. Gates will open at 7 pm. The game begins at 8 pm. Students will be dismissed NLT 9:30 pm. Please check your email and text from Charms concerning chaperon assignments for tonight. There is no concession stand tonight. If you are not on the email / text to chaperon tonight, you must purchase a ticket to get into the game.

Welcome everyone to another exciting year of Band at Nansemond River High School! YES, band is a serious thing at Nansemond River and we like to call it “Serious Fun.!” You are not too late to join us. Some students are still enrolled in Summer School or on vacations. We invite you to find out, “WHAT IT TAKES TO BE WARRIOR!”

  1. Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 3 is NATIONAL NIGHT OUT in Suffolk. I apologize for the extremely late notice. We have been invited to join in to represent the band at the National Night out to be held at Creekside Elementary School off of Shoulders Hill Road. THIS IS A VOLUNTEER PERFORMANCE. Please wear a band t shirt. Those who have paid BAND DUES ($150) will receive their T-shirts tomorrow. Drummers, please meet at the band room at 645 pm.
  2. Thursday, August 5 @ 7 pm, Band Parent Meeting in the band room. Please be sure to enter your cell phone number in Charms to receive a Zoom link.
  3. Band Camp is Monday thru Thursday, August 2 thru August 19. Band Camp hours change to 330 pm to 730 pm to Monday thru Thursday, August 23 thru 26. August 27 is GAME DAY and our first home game. Students should prepared to stay from 330 pm to 9 pm. Details for Game Day will be discussed during Thursday’s meeting.

All students who plan to participate in the 21-22 edition of the MMW Band must audition with Mr Woodis August 2 and 3. Auditions will be held in the bandroom Monday and Tuesday Aug 2 & 3. Please register for Summer Band Camp using the following link: https://forms.gle/BvjH7pztmhJJB2557

Summer Band camp hours are from 8 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. Students attending Summer School are permitted to attend camp late during the first week. All band students need a physical dated after May 1, 2021.

Parents must provide transportation to camp in the mornings. Students may arrive as early as 7:30 am. Transportation is provided to take students home at 2:30 pm.

Band Dues are $150 for the school year. All students are required to participate in fundraisers.

New members must wear a plain white t-shirt, black shorts / sweat pants, sneakers, hat and mask (while indoors). Students must bring their own lunch. Bottled water will be provided.

Requirements:

  1. You must be a currently enrolled student at Nansemond River High School.
  2. You must have band on your schedule for the 2021-2022 school year.
  3. If you are not in a band class, email Mr Woodis at edwardwoodis@spsk12.net to set up an audition date and time.
  4. Wind players must have a prepared piece, play two major scales, and play chromatically from your lowest note to the highest note you can play clearly.
  5. Percussion players must play the following rudiments (open – close – open): paradiddle, double paradiddle, flam accent, double stroke roll, 9 stroke roll, 11 stroke roll, and drag. I will email you a copy of Maximum Strength Warm ups. Students in band class can find the music in the CANVAS Library.
  6. AUXILIARY ( Dancer, Flag, and Twirler) Tryouts will be held July 27 – 29 at NRHS in the band room and the auditorium.

Welcome back to all A and B Hybrid students!! You will need a fully charged chromebook for all classes. No instruments needed for classes until after Spring Break on April 12, 2021.
