Summer Band Camp for the Magnificent Marching Warrior Band begins on Monday, July 31, 2017 @ 8 am.


New band members start band camp on Monday, July 31 from 8 am – 3 pm.   NO BUSES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR NEW MEMBER CAMP.  BUSES WILL START RUNNING ON AUGUST 7.  


Buses for Summer Band and Athletics activities will begin running on Monday, August 7, 2017.  The first pick up will begin at 6:15 a.m.  All band, football, and Summer sport training activities will  ride the same activity buses.


Who:  All students zoned to attend Nansemond River High School for the 2017-2018 school year.  Rising 8th and 9th grade students from John Yeates Middle School are eligible to participate in band camp at Nansemond River.  If you play flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, or tuba and zoned for Nansemond River HS, you are eligible to participate in Summer band camp.  Percussion players must audition on the spot.   All percussionist must attend Rookie Camp on July 31.

When is summer band camp?:

Rookie Camp July 31 – Aug 3 / 8 am – 3 pm

All band members including rookies Mon – Thurs. Aug 7  – 24 / 8 am – 3 pm

Time: 8 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. **(Bus transportation will be provided) Busses will begin running Monday, Aug 7   at 6:15 a.m.

** Parents are advised to bring your student to school on Monday no later than 7:45 a.m. and the student can ride the bus home at the end of camp.  The bus driver will let the student know the place and time to catch the bus for the remainder of the camp.**

What to bring?  Your instrument / reeds / mouthpiece / hat  / boots  / lunch / personal snacks for breaks / a thermos for ice and cold water / A GREAT ATTITUDE and ENTHUSIASM

COST:  Summer band camp is $65 due on Aug 3.   Band Dues is $125 deadline August 24, 2015.

All band students must have a physical in order to participate in marching band. You may have a physical completed by your personal physician, the Little Clinic in Kroger, Urgent Care, or Patient First.  All marching band students are required to have a physical. DEADLINE FOR PHYSICALS,  AUGUST  20 .

NRHS Students Participating in March Mania

From March 4 through April 3, “The President’s Own” will host “Sousa’s March Mania,” a tournament pitting 32 marches against each other for the Marine Band online community to determine which one is the favorite. Every day through April 3, marches will compete head to head while our friends and fans vote which marches advance in the tournament.  Students in Mr Woodis’ class have been given a bracket to complete.   Students must bring the brackets to class each week to show for homework and quiz grades.  A winning bracket is an automatic 100 quiz grade.  The champion march will be announced on April 4. In order to win “Sousa’s March Mania” you must obtain a perfect bracket, completed prior to the start of the first game at 9 a.m., on March 4 (honor system). If you win, you’ll be named an honorary “March King” for a day! Participants are also invited to share completed brackets with the Marine Band by emailing them to or posting to

Winter Concert moved to Monday January 23 @ 7 pm

Due to school closings and weather conditions, the Band Winter Concert is postponed to Monday, January 23, 2017 @ 7 pm.   Students should plan to report to school by 6:30 pm.  We will rehearse after school on Tuesday January 17 for this event.

Thank you for supporting the MMW Band

The fruit will arrive tomorrow morning at 8 am.  Volunteers are needed to help unload the truck.  We will not be ready to distribute the fruit until it has been sorted and inventoried.    Thanks again for supporting the Magnificent Marching Warrior Band!  Happy Holidays!
