Warrior Summer Band Camp 2008
*Students are expected to be free of drugs and alcohol. Possession and/or use of drugs, alcohol or cigarettes will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the camp.
*Cell phones, ipods, mp3 players, PSP’s and any portable electronic devices are not allowed to be used, heard or seen during rehearsals or performances.
*Profanity is not acceptable language and will not be tolerated.
*Students are expected to be prompt for rehearsals and performances.
*Excessive tardiness will be dealt with on an individual basis.
*A written excuse is to be submitted following any absence.
*Chewing gum, candy, food, or open drinks are not allowed in the band room or practice rooms.
*Writing on the chalkboard, music stands, chairs, or bulletin boards is prohibited.
*Jewelry should be left at home on all performances and safe guarded during rehearsals.
* Students are expected to observe all Suffolk Public Schools codes of conduct while in the building, on the grounds or on the school bus.
BAND CAMPERS WILL RECEIVE A COPY OF THE BAND HANDBOOK DURING SUMMER CAMP.

What a terrific Spring Concert! The only thing that could’ve made it better is if we had 100% participation in rehearsals. It is so very important to attend all rehearsals and performances.The make up assignment deadline has been extended to Friday June 6.

The Spring Band uniforms will be delivered on Wednesday of Next Week. Band Students should wear their old spring uniforms. Rookies are to wear a white T, black or red sweats and white sneakers. Whaleyville Community Day Parade Saturday morning 8 a.m.

The past two weekends have been very busy for the instrumental music program at NRH. Congratulations Melvin and Paul for earning a first chair position in the All City Orchestra. The All City Band was equally superb with guest conductor Mr. John Brewington. The NRH Band boosters produced a professional fashion show featuring the graduating seniors in the music program. I hope that this will be an annual event for the band boosters. It was an appropriate and elegant rite of passage for the seniors in the program. Thank you everyone for all of your hardwork and sacrifice for the future of musical exellence in our school. A few reminders:

We will have a rehearsal on Saturday at 2 p.m. Parents are asked to please send a bag lunch with your student. There will be hamburgers and hot dogs available for the students provided by the band boosters but, please pack a lunch in the event your student may need something different. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the actual event will begin by 7 p.m.

Tomorrow is the last day of Spring Band Camp. Congratulations to all of the students who auditioned for a spot in the auxiliary squads. Congratulations to all of the students who made it through the spring band camp. The marching band performance schedule for this spring will be as follows:

May 3 Whaleyville Community Day @ 8 a.m.
May 17 Holland Founder’s Day Parade @ 8 a.m.

The Suffolk Public Schools is housed in the largest land mass city in Southeastern Virginia and the various music programs are the best kept secret in Hampton Roads. This weekend, April 17 -19, at Kings Fork High and Middle the best young musicians in the city will prepare a first class performance.

All City Band April 19

April 7 at 2:30 p.m. We will begin our Annual Spring Mini-Band Camp. All rising 8th and 9th graders enrolled in band from John Yeates Middle School are eligible to participate. All students trying out for flag, majorette and dancer must be enrolled in a band class for the 2008-2009 school year. Only 9 -12 grade students may tryout for majorettes and dancer. Camp times: April 7 - 24 from 2:30 - 5 p.m. NO CAMP ACTIVITIES WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAYS. ALL PARENTS ARE INVITED TO THE BAND BOOSTER MEETING ON THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 2008 AT 7 P.M. FOR MORE INFORMATION.
