Students of SPS who have a knack for the visual arts will have a chance to get their work displayed at Old Dominion University Tri-Cities Center on October 22 from 5 to 6 p.m. The general public is welcome to come support this event. Throughout the event, guests can enjoy beverages and dessert as they peruse the artwork. If your child has a piece of work being displayed, you will receive a personal invitation.
Our annual Peanut Fest art show has been cancelled due to the weather. However, the students are working hard to finish their first fall projects so that we can begin to decorate our school. Thank you for your continued support of our art program. We will be sure to keep you updated on art happenings.
The art department is currently working on some new and exciting fall projects. We are showing students warm and cool colors and paint mixing techniques. Stop by to experience the excitement.
The art department is working on some major things for 2015. Currently, our talented art students are creating Mardi Gras mask that will be featured as a fund raiser for the Suffolk Education Foundation. These mask are being made using plaster cloth and our students are doing a wonderful job. It’s almost time for the 3rd annual art gala which will be held during YAM (Youth Art Month). We will keep you posted with more details as the date gets closer. In the mean time, please continue to support our art department at NPES.
Our first art show for the 2014 school year was a major success. We had a number of students art work displayed at the Suffolk Peanut Fest. We received a number of wonderful comments about our talented students. This school year, we are planning to work on even bigger and better art projects. Our goal in the art department is to stimulate our students thinking all while helping them relax and express themselves by means of art. Well, we have gotten a great start to our school year here in the art room. Kindergartners are creating their own color wheels. I’m working with the 1st grade teachers to help 1st graders learn about Pocahontas and soon Columbus Day. 2nd graders are learning about lines and patterns. 3rd graders are creating textured cats. 4th graders are working on two 3-D projects. One of the 3-D projects is a model of the state of VA to help them learn the 5 regions of VA. 5th graders are using the elements of art to create a realistic portrait of a Native American. Look for these and other projects soon in the hallways of NPES!
