VA Studies: Create a story where you explain the concepts of money, bartering, credit, debt, and savings. Your story must have characters, a setting, and a story line. No less than 2 paragraphs and give details for what happened. Remember your reader needs to visually see what is going on in your writing.

Week of Nov. 28th – Dec. 2nd

 

Please make sure that you go over the papers that are in the white communication folder with your student. These folders have graded work and important information.

A blue packet and a purple form were sent home with the students last week. Please make sure ALL forms are completed and returned back to school ASAP. These forms are in regards to the STEM 360 program that gives our 4th grade students an amazing opportunity. If the students do not turn in these forms they cannot participate. If you have any questions please feel free to email either myself of Miss Guthrie.

Report Cards will be sent home November 29th. Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place before and after-school from Tuesday, November 29th through Thursday, December 1st.  Conferences are available upon request. Please contact me if you would like a conference.  They are first come, first serve.

Homework for the week:

Reading: Read 20 minutes. Complete reading log. Due Friday. Quiz on author’s purpose on Friday.

Math: Complete sections of worksheet. Due Friday

Science: Complete section of worksheet. Due Friday   **Force, Energy, and Motion vocabulary Quiz on Thursday.**

VA Studies: Write 2 paragraphs explaining if you believe that the colonists made the right decision to move the capital of Virginia. Explain why or why not. Use evidence from notes to explain your answer. Due Friday

Week of Nov. 7-11

It is a short week for us this week, but it is packed full.
Tuesday, Nov. 8th–> NO SCHOOL/ Election Day
Wednesday, Nov. 9th–> Science test (4.7 & 4.8)
Thursday, Nov. 10th –> Reading quiz on Inferences/ Drawing Conclusions
Friday–> NO SCHOOL/ Veteran’s Day
Homework :
Monday: Read 20 min. Complete reading log for Mo.  Quiz on Inferences/drawing conclusions on Thursday, Nov. 10th  (Due Thursday)
Math: Complete worksheet Monday and Wednesday night (Due Thursday)
Science: Test on Solar System (4.7 & 4.8) Wednesday
VA Studies: Write 2 paragraphs about what you have learned so far in VA Studies. (Due Wednesday)
Many of the students are struggling with 2 digit and 3 digit multiplication because they are weak on their multiplication facts. They have the strategy down and are following the process but they do not know their basic facts. Basic multiplication facts are very important for almost every SOL taught in math in 4th grade. Please work with them nightly on learning their facts.

Important changes!!!!!!!

Due to being out on Monday, October 10th because of Hurricane Matthew our benchmark testing dates have changed. Please make sure you talk with your child about using ALL strategies taught to them as they will be receiving a quiz grade for using the strategies taught in Reading and Math.
Math –> October 20th  (SOL 4.1, 4.4a,b,d, 4.12, & 4.5a)
Reading –>  October 25-26th (Variety of comprehension and word skills)
VA Studies –> November 4th (VS2 and VS3)
Science –> November 7th (4.1, 4.7 & 4.8)

MULTIPLICATION FACTS

Please remind your child to get busy learning those multiplication facts.  Ice cream sundaes for all of those that finish the 3,4,6,7,8,9 times tables. Remind them to sign up to recite the facts. They may not use their fingers!

Hello everyone,

Happy New School Year!  I am looking forward to a fun and productive year! Please make sure that your child has brought in all of their supplies.  We have already added math, science, and social studies notes to our binders. I have been stressing to my students how important it is to stay tidy and organized to make learning and studying fun.  Classroom DoJo letters will be sent home in Tuesday folder. That way you can see all the amazing points they are earning with their good behavior.  HERE’S TO A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!
