November 15th is America Recycles Day therefore the Recycling Club is going to do a week of events to encourage students and staff to recycle. Last year, we did many of these same events during Earth Week.

  • Recycle Mania (All Week): Everyone will be encouraged to recycle and the classroom that recycles the most for the week will get a prize. Each day of Recycling Week homeroom teachers will be asked to keep track and estimate how much material was recycled.
  • Recycle Door/Bin Contest (All Week): Teachers and students will decorate their classroom door or their new recycling bin. The most creative door/bin will win a prize! If you are in a mobile unit you can decorate a closet door. Judging will take place on Friday.
  • Get Caught Green Handed (All Week): Various faculty and staff will be asked to hand out “Green Handed” slips to students they see recycling. Students will return the form to Miss Hayes (Room 1) or Miss Rubash (Room 3) to receive a small prize.
  • Recycling Announcements (All Week): Each morning of America Recycles Week a recycling club member will share a fact about recycling in order to educate students on what can be recycled and also the importance of recycling.
  • Recycling Commitments (All Week): A banner will be hung up in the cafeteria for students to sign their name during lunch to show their commitment to make the world more green.
  • Upcycling Event (November 15th): Students will have the opportunity to learn how to turn newspaper into a pencil holder, how to turn a two-liter bottle into a piggy bank, and how to turn a juice box into a wallet. This will take place on America Recycles Day, after school, in room 1, from 2:00 to 3:30. A sign up sheet is located outside of Room 1 if students are interested in attending.
  • Green Out Day (Friday, November 17): The entire school will be encouraged to wear green in support of America Recycles Week. We are still selling the t-shirts for $5 to our students and staff as a fundraiser. If you are interested in purchasing a shirt please see Sabrina Hayes in Room 1.
