What Elementary Librarians Do All Day!

As I sit back to think about my role as an elementary school librarian, it brings to mind that I am the holder of many jobs. I am the gatekeeper of knowledge. Not only do I need to keep the library organized, but I need to make the library inviting where all who enter through the doors knows the value of the knowledge contained within the walls. I am a detective trying to figure out what each child might like to check-out and read. I am a coach encouraging children to read more knowing that the only way to get better at reading is to read more. I am a teacher providing them the knowledge that I’ve gained over a life-time, and show them how it applies to their lives today. I am a mentor living by example. Tutoring kids after school and hosting after school clubs. I am a counselor. I listen to the children and I mean truly listen. They have so many things to share. I am a nurse patching up booboos of the body and heart. I am a mommy, smiling at accomplishments and giving out hugs. I am a storyteller spinning and weaving tales of truth and fantasy. Any time you want to see what a librarian does every day, just come in and see. Yes I am proud to be a librarian, but I am so much more.
It was a great first year at the Shore. I am looking forward to another great year!!
FYI! The paperback and Fiction sections have been merged together. So when you are looking for a book, all books by the same author are all together regardless of the binding.
Our spring book fair will be May 3-11. The theme will be Hawaiian Luau.
Two out of Three new book shipments are here. If you want to check out a new book, look under the bulletin board on top of the magazine rack.
Judging for Odyssey of the MInd
I got to do something very incredible this past weekend on Feb. 25, 2012! I was a judge for the Odyssey of the Mind competition. I judged Middle School and High School in the Weird Science category. Kudos to my 2 teams that competed this year. Ms. Newton’s team had a car that visited different places in time and changed emotions. Mr. Pulley’s team placed first in the Weird Science elemntary division. They are now going on to State competition in April. Good Luck!
A big Thank You to everyone who helped with the book fair. Thank you to all that bought items from the fair. It was very successful! With the profits earned, I will buying new books for the students to check out. Coming soon to the library….New Books!
