Monday, December 15: Last Friday 2 of our groups presented their final “Preschool Prjoct” results. Today the last group will present their project. Next up, the class will complete a metacognitive reflection about this unit.  I will then Introduce lesson 32. I will be out the rest of this week due to a family illness emergency. Cadets will have the option of working on either the new lesson, or they may work on their mid-term research papers. Either way, the completed lesson 32 is due upon our return to school in January.

Thursday, Dec. 11: This week our Cadets have been working on their final Preschool project. It should be ready for presentation tomorrow, but time will be given for last minute tweeking.

* Cadets should also continue working on their Mid-term research papers. They should pay close attention to the instruction packet and the rubric for the precise way in which it should be written. Since this is a dual credit course I expect the Cadets to strive for college level writing. This will make the transition to college next year a little less stressful.

Friday, December 5: This week we have been talking about the many purposes and needs for play in childhood preschool development. Cadets will work next week to create a preschool of their own; this will include the physical layout, staff to student ratio, organization/scheduling, goal statement,  and supplies of all types.

*******************************************************************************************************

Wednesday, Dec. 3: Lesson #28 - Cadets will be able to identify various types of play of preschool children and the significance of their play.

Activities: View United streaming clip - “Active Me, Healthy Me: Being active at childcare”. Completion of follow along study guide and discussion of children’s activity levels.

*******************************************************************************************************

Tuesday, December 2: Our cadets just finished a unit on cognitive, social, and psychological aspects of children’s development.

Heads up: The cadets mid-term research paper is due NO LATER THAN Tuesday, January 20th.  Also, ANY CADET who would like help along the way with developing their paper, or would like me to “redline” it before officially turning it in, just needs to ask! I am available Mon-Thursdays after school.

Today: We are beginning our studies of preschool age children and the exploration of preschool development, curriculum, and environments.

***********************************************************************************************************************

Thursday, Nov. 6: Lesson #23: Cadets will be able to identify cognitive developmental characteristics and stages.         Today our cadets did some role play, listened to some lecture, participated in discussion, and were given time to read and work in cooperative groups on an information handout about Cognitive development and Jean Piaget- The Father of Cognitive Development.

Tomorrow there will be a quiz on overall physical and cognitive development.

Hey Mrs. Shultz, I watched three of the videos, “what do teachers make?”, the top 10, and “21st cntury learning goals.” I loved the first one, it is so true. When I tell people that I want to become a teacher most people are like why. Thats why I feel teachers make a difference in students even if in that instance we don’t like them. The list of 10 was kinda silly. The 21st century we’ve talked about that in class, but I think it had very helpful ideas. I feel students learn better in a very fun, colorful, hands on type of environment.

Hi Tory, I’m glad you took the time to watch those videos. If you know of any others that would be good please share those ideas with us!
