What are we learning and How can you help at home?

Please spend about 10 minutes (daily) reviewing those skills taught in class. Students should be able to recognize the following letters: Oo, Bb, Aa, Tt, Mm, Ss, Xx, Pp, Uu, Ww, Yy, Aa, Jj, Zz, and Ff. They should also be able to identify numerals 1-10 and count from 1-30.

Practice name writing  and also practice writing those letters taught.

We are also working on doing neat and careful work. We want to always present our “BEST.”

Parents,  if you would like to come in and read a story or share a craft,  let me know so that we may arrange a time .  We would love to have you and the kids would enjoy it so much! Please make sure that you have completed a Volunteer Connect form on Suffolk Public Schools’ website and  have been approved to volunteer prior to coming.  We encourage parental involvement and look forward to making you apart of our day.

Homework opportunities provide instructional support and allow parents to know what we are doing in class. They are designed to take no more than 10 minutes. Please make sure that you are working with your child at home. The rewards are endless! Thank you for your support.

Falling Into Early Start

Fall Leave

We had a great first month of school.  We have just completed pre-assessments. We are working on enhancing strengths and building upon weaknesses. The Early Start program does engage students in a lot of hands on activities.  We will also  implement more fine motor activities as the weeks progress. Writing and cutting are areas that I would like to see growth in as we continue. Please offer your child many opportunities at home to engage in these type of activities. We are also working on “time on task.” During small group time, I really encourage presenting your “best work.” They have really done well and continue to embrace our expectations. Mrs. Barrett and I are excited about their eagerness to learn and look forward to each of them maximizing their potential.

Please note that name writing is a skill that should be practiced every night until mastered.

  • Please help your child practice cutting paper with scissors – cut out pictures in magazines, shapes you draw, or just cutting in a line on paper. Show him/her how to hold scissors.
  • You may also begin practicing with your child how to write his/her first name, start with the first letter of the name. If the first name has been mastered please continue with the last name.

We will work on self-monitoring our behavior, following multi-step directions and accomplishing more things on our own like zipping jackets, fastening belts, mastering our name-writing, memorizing our address and identifying all of the letters/sounds we’ve learned (S, P, T, O, X, U, Y & W.) This month we will begin our new unit “Animals Everywhere”, discussing what kind of coverings they have (fur, feathers, etc), pets vs. wild and living vs. nonliving things. Next letters: Ff, Aa, Zz.

Reminders

 Mrs. Barrett and I appreciate your support, we know that it will continue. You have entrusted us with your greatest possessions and we are privileged.

 Practice name writing every day. Please note, we have also started working on last names.

 Minimally, our goal is to identify each letter and sound of the alphabet by the end of year. We desperately need you to reinforce what we are doing in the classroom.

 Homework opportunities provide instructional support and allow parents to know what we are doing in class. We really need your help in order for this task to be successful.
